So what you mean is that every other club in the EPL does have a fanbase who employ offensive chants. What is it about Celtic's chanting that makes you think they would be unsuitable for the ears of the EPL crowds?
No, it was a joke. Arsenal are known for not making any noise. Thought you'd know that, to be honest. As for Celtic and/or Rangers being in the Premier League or English pyramid, why would that be desirable? They already ballsed up the SPL by grabbing all the cash, so it became completely uncompetitive and boring. Why invite that sort of thinking, plus the inevitable crowd problems, when we've already got plenty of greedy, shortsighted owners?
There's a misconception down here that the IRA still exist, so any song written in the 1920's about the Easter Rising is seen as somehow relevant to today, except there's been a peace process since the 90's. The peeps down here can't be arsed to even read up as to why there's an Irish connection at Celtic.
IMHO and only MO , they still do , but in a drugs / local gangland mob sort of way . Same as the UDA , both sides are still active , but not as we remember it .
That's why all this "no surrender to the IRA" is pure bullshit, we(LFC) have played Celtic in European matches, Testimonials and friendlies home and away and there's been no major trouble in either city. So I'm speaking from a personal view.
Ages ago I stayed with some people from Belfast , met them at a race . I asked what was it like living in there now , because we still hear of murders . The wife said that , you assume it's a terrorist organisation , but here we may know it's because a man was caught sleeping with another man's wife . That she said , was not exciting enough for the newspapers etc . A world away from the early 70's . My mum's first husband died in an accident , She had my older brother and sister . She married my father , they had me , and my younger sister . We were abroad , in 1973 my Dad's contract ended and he was asked would he like to go back to NI . He has told me that in those days , a widowed Catholic woman who married a protestant , and living in Belfast , was not the smartest move ... My point being that the criminals ( aka former terrorists on both sides IMHO ) are still out there , but their agenda is totally different .
Just to be clear, I'm one of many, many Tims who have no time for political religious chanting/singing. When songs about the IRA etc are sung at Celtic Park it's usually from one section, same as the banners. It's a minority viewpoint and one that Celtic FC have condemned - recently too. It's a cultural thing more than it is religious, the IRA in it's many forms was never about religion anyway, sadly some people will continue to sing/protest but it's a fading trend at CP, far less problematic than it was 30 or 40 years ago.
