I was actually hopeful he'd be up to the standard set by our Leicester and Sunderland chums. I was wrong. I never thought I'd miss the Premier League because the standard of WUMs was better.
I admit to watching Oxford and Leicester when I lived in those cities. I expect to be vilified for this, but confession is good for the soul.
This is all getting complete bo**ocks since when did actually watching a game not concerning your home team become something to be villified for? I followed City to the end of the earth in the 50's, 60's, 70's and part of the 80's, well it felt like it at times. But that didn't stop me going to other games when the oppotunity presented itself I spent a few Saturday's on the Stretford End of Old Trafford. And whilst I'm at it I confess I watched the 2 games Leeds Utd played at Boothferry Park when they were banned from playing at Elland Rd due to crowd trouble, a couple of brilliant games against Spurs and Sunderland if I remember correctly.
Watched sheff u sheff wed burton Cambridge st neots town Barnsley Bradford scunnthorpe Peterborough derby Donny. That's just in the last five years. Wherever I'm working always go to a night game
There's obviously nothing at all wrong with a football fan taking the opportunity to watch other games. It's what programmes like match of the day and Sky rely on for a start. In my view, where it's an issue is when people do that, but claim other excuses for not watching their current club during the same period, even though they'd have played the odd game nearby too.
Seeing as this turned out into a confessional... I've been to watch Rugby. Not that ****ty league stuff, it was Union, at Northampton. Even if I had, I would never admit to watching League. Praise be! Hallelujah!
