Playing devil's advocate Ninian, who would you play there, Pack, Bacuna or both? If only one, which of Ralls and Vaulks would you leave out?
Put Baccuna and Williams in front of the back 4, Murphy, Wilson and Ojo in front of them and Moore up top. Should see some goals. Not sure which end though.
Must say I like that idea and there'd certainly be some goals scored at both ends with that set up. At the moment I'd settle for that until May rather than the mind numbing stuff we've been subjected to so far this season.
They are all mediocre at best and just don’t know who I’d play but if pushed Vaulks would not be picked.
Maybe mediocre as individuals at the moment. It now depends on how they perform as a unit and that has to come from MM.
You know, every pre season we highlight the central midfield as an area long due for overhaul but we are always left wanting. Ralls is a seeming permanent fixture season on season with others working around him. Last season we had Pack and Vaulks brought in and this season nobody. Hopefully MM is he stays can get this vital hub of the team sorted
Typical City midfields of the recent past have usually contained a "playmaker" and a "minder". Just few years back we had McPhail pulling the strings with Scimeca minding the fort. Since then it's been Whitts with Gavin Rae and then Gunnar doing the dirty job. We've lost that potent mix in recent years and certainly since Warnock arrived. Since then it's been all grunt and no finesse. Overdue a return to the DJ type of format - go for it with some skill and class rather than trying to gain points by blunt force trauma.
Be fair to Pack he did play the ball of the season to Wilson v Birmingham but they’re as rare as hen’s teeth.
https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...kCopy&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=sharebar I know it's only WoL again but we do seem to be turning a corner with our outlook on youngsters. Interesting comment about the style of the U23’s.
I'm going to be positive (probably naive) and say that it represents a progressive approach for the future and not a change of strategy entirely due to financial constraints.
The emergence of Mark Harris, Bagan, Sang, Colwill, Evans and one or 2 others who have been part of the first team match day squad plus Brown being recalled from Livingston indicates a much needed culture change at the club and augers well for the future.
So far so good under MM. We've struggled to understand some of his selections but he's getting to know the group and the results have been an improvement. Confidence boosting derby win albeit against a struggling Robins team. There's still plenty of work to be done with us just 6 points off a relegation spot and Rotherham and Forest resurgent at the moment.
Anyone else watch the highlights of City v Ipswich Under 23's? City won 4.0, could have been 8.2. The guy who was sub last week, Colwill, is a bloody big lad. Like a giant amongst the others. Only saw a few minutes but a good touch for a big guy, very comfortable on the ball.
