Was it that City were that good or rather that Luton were poor? Shades of the Barnsley game. Early goal and they never looked likely to concede. I suppose the performance v Huddersfield will go some way to explain this enigma. Hats off to young Mark Harris
Luton weren't that bad - they just played into our hands and suffered as a result. They lost 4-0 but had 61% of the possession against our 39%. If they'd stayed behind the ball and waited instead of trying to play a more expansive game, we might not have scored so early and then anything could have happened. High possession stats don't suit us - hope Huddersfield try the same thing on Tuesday but wouldn't bet on it. On the Harris (Mark that is) subject - brought a different feel to the attacking options. If fit and fresh enough, I'd start him again on Tuesday. Got to say I thought Glatzel looked up for it when he came on as well - tried really hard to make things happen.
A good win today and I'm delighted for young Harris. That will do his confidence no end of good and gives us more attacking options going forward. However will today's win and another on Tuesday be concrete progress or again papering over the cracks only for it all to fall apart in the 2 away games to come before the visit from our friends down west? Luton were not a stern test and their defence was rubbish. Huddersfield will be tougher opponents Tuesday especially after beating Boro today. We did not always deal well with Luton's attacking threat. A more clinical side would have caused us problems. Bottom line - Harris has a stay of execution which could be extended by another good performance against t'Udders but he will need to continue churning out results to protect his tenure. P.S. No sign of Wurzels/Turnips tonight?
Looking ahead to next season as I can’t see us going up or down, it’s looking desperate for this lot. Burnley no doubt will wriggle free.
your last 6 results D L W L D L * 7 could be W … cor blimey it was ! next unless you break the mould is L or D ..LOL Luton been punching above their weight … so well done on the "revival" Shuddersfield should be a push over …..
disgusting.. almost dropped down to your pre Luton level! mind you someone might just just suffer a thrashing at out hands after Christmas!
Glen has gone overboard here with his marks. Bacuna 9 https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...rilliant-cardiff-city-player-ratings-19364045
Do we prefer 4-4-2 meaning Wilson plays out wide or 4-5-1 with another winger but Wilson can play in the middle? To me he seems wasted out wide but on the other hand 4-0 and 3-0 suggests otherwise. Maybe the type of team we are up against may determine Harris’ formation.
Im a fan of 4231. Gives defensive cover and attacking options. Id agree that we need Wilson in the danger area pulling the strings, but given Moore's strengths, maybe out wide making crosses works for the team. Not seen any of the last 2 games. Did we actually line up 442 or did Harris play off the striker in a 3 / 5? We definitely need more than one formation available and harris has played a few though not sure its been the right one for the opposition each time. Interestingly, the games we've lost we've had decent amounts of possession. The last 2 games have totalled 7-0 with less than 40% of the ball.
Definitely 4-4-2. Ojo is no flying winger but has good vision. He played Glatzel in last night for his goal and a brilliant defence splitting pass for Moore the other day (can't remember which game it was). Him one side and Wilson the other gives options. They can both cut inside and feed - it's probably a pity they are both left footed, but that's all. Whilst Bacuna is no tailor made RB, he's having a go and got forward last night with some brilliant runs. The problem is he has a long way to travel up the pitch from where he starts - if he was in midfield, he could be a huge asset running at defenders and creating problems.
Just read that Harris claims to be a pioneer of using 5 subs. Still find a minute or two at the end of a game and must p!ss off the players used in that way. Glatzel had a 15min spell and got a goal, riding the confidence of those around him, building his own. Its a long season, there will be weariness, injury and loss of form along the way so we need people ready to step up. We need more confidence built in the 'fringe players' as the will be key to any success. If we get a few more results I'd like to see Whyte, Murphy, Cunningham, Began, Pack, etc given 20 mins here and there. Put Murphy on as first change in with the first choice lineup. Get those around him to bouy him up. Another time whyte or cunningham, but not together to pile pressure on them. 2 minutes here and there does nothing for the player or the team. Time for Harris to step up his man management, build up the players and help them gain confidence. With moore in this sort of form, murphy should be able to swing any sort of cross in and be in with creating a chance. Give some of these players the chance.
Harris (Mark) needed more than a few seconds on the pitch in each of those previous games - maybe if he had, we'd have got some return from them. 5 subs gives a manager so many more options than just bringing someone on in the dying seconds for the sake of it.
I think 5 subs is OTT unless there is a guideline like maybe 4 occasions 1 or 2 or 3 or at halftime and no more than 3 times in second half?
Thanks Glen for wasting 3 minutes of my life reading this https://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport...ajor-january-transfer-window-problem-19395416
