55 minutes gone and City 3-0 up against Watford under 23's - hope that's the same scoreline by then on Saturday.
Good to see them showing they know where the net is. Watters must be itching for his chance in the first team. Not sure how he will fit as a totally different style to Moore but good if we go 4 4 2.
Newport hosting Bradford at CCS tonight as Rodney Parade pitch worse than a heavily plowed cabbage patch sprinkled with broken glass.
Maybe a bit "negative" and not what we want to hear, but probably a very fair take on the situation - a good read from an outsider................. https://www.football365.com/news/opinion-cardiff-mccarthy-promotion-too-much-soon-championship
Have to agree. I don't think any of us expected City to be in play off contention now given the situation Harris left. I would like us to keep pushing for 5th or 6th to keep the season interesting but if we didn't make it at least we will have had a good ride.
Understand completely where the author is coming from and on one level he's correct that building for a longer term stay in the top flight would be best. BUT I don't think there's a single club would think even a fleeting stay in the top flight would be unwelcome. Sadly the potential financial benefits are just too great. But I guess therein lies the whole point of the article. Another short term stay may result in decent money being waved at average (by Prem standards) players in the hope of staying up. I don't think our fans would willingly accept any kind of half-arsed attempt to stay up that meant actually pocketing cash in readiness to build further a year later (ie. a genuine 3-5 year plan). We're (the fan base) bad enough in the Championship (Big Mick wasn't good enough, buying the likes of Ng, a paltry league 2 player was ridiculous! ). Look at Sheffield United. Looks like Wilder is leaving them soon. I know there's stuff going on behind the scenes there but he definitely built slowly and was lauded as a genius last season. 2nd season and he's not longer good enough, yet other clubs that HAVE stuck by their managers seem to do OK (Burnley, Norwich spring to mind). It takes a brave owner to show that kind of patience.
I think getting a playoff spot was the minimum target at the start of the season for the hierarchy let alone the fans, whereas now after what we went through in the 20 odd games under Harris, we'll have done well to get in there. The question is, what do we do if we do get the chance? The obvious answer is to go for it and not worry about what will be if we do manage to get up. The points the author was making is based upon past history and rightly so. The crux of the matter is what will it take to stay up there in terms of management and cash made available - that's where the doubt lies.
That is the crux. In hindsight Warnock wasn’t the right man for City in the PL (saying that he nearly kept us up). But again in hindsight who would have been the right man? Anyway that’s history. So would MM be the man to try to keep us up and stabilise and enhance continued PL status? Well the club have given him a 2 year contract so if we do sneak up then he would have to be the man. How do Burnley in particular manage to stay up with points to spare? An old fashioned manager and a team of bits and pieces, largely British yet defy the odds again and again.
Think the author played down the players in the squad. Harris did underperform with what was available to him. If, and its a big if, we got promoted, I'd hope we didn't chuck money at one or two signings. Happily see continued, sustainable development of the squad even if it meant coming straight back down but with a plan on ongoing squad building for another promotion push.
Sadly Remote those are the words of a battle hardened, wise supporter as opposed to the new generation of splash the cash, win or get sacked brigade. (Did I get away with not inferring you are old?? )
