Thought I'd mention Caulker. IMO he is really flying under the radar to coin an apprentice phrase. There have been so many threads and comments about the CB situation generally focusing on Rio, Dunne, Hill etc and their various weaknesses plus Ned and the need to play him. Caulker for me is proving to be a reliable solid player quietly going about his job. Credit where it is due and I think will only get better. Dunne was great last night but longer term Isla, Ned, Caulker and Yun is my preferred back 4.

As we appear to be settling with 4 at the back who do you see as your first choice back 4?

I had Caulker as an outside bet for MOM against Villa

Solid, classy, composed and read the game well. Mentored by Dunne but still i think he's seriously under-rated.

One of the signings we got right in the summer IMHO

Didn't Caulker say that Rio was the reason he signed for us?......<whistle>

I think Caulker might now be thinking that he has Dunne and Clint to learn his trade from as well as Rio. Three great pro's. He probably has the best comprehensively centre back finishing school in football.

Correction: Two great pros and a free, signed copy of some transient's autobiography.

Long term a back 4 of Isla, Ned, Caulker, YSY.....

At the moment playing Dunne/Hill instead of Ned makes sense as an older head is somewhat essential as the other 3 are relatively young and still learning the role.....

Time for the bookwriter to retire....

Rio should know all about finishing school .................. he's passed his final exam ( he's finished, washed up ) and can leave anytime he wants, the sooner the better, really.

I think you are all missing the point and just picking players

There isn't a defence in the world that can survive without a holding midfielder, and an attacking creative force up front

All these things contribute to pressure being taken away from any back four

Don't think we are missing the point Dave as it has been acknowledged on most threads that Henry/Sandro add that bit of bite in midfield and cover to the back 4......Any back 4 listed above should have these 2 in front with either Adel or Nico as play maker in the No 10 role, mind Fer also improved on Monday after Hoilett came on for OBZ and he moved more central. It is actually good to have options in those positions now....

Read the title of the thread DT ??

Yes, that phrase literally didn't exist before the Apprentice.
