Lee Cattermole: Former Sunderland midfielder joins Dutch side VVV Venlo on trial According to the BBC, former Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has joined Dutch Eredivisie side VVV Venlo on trial in the hope of earning a permanent deal. Cattermole left after a 10-year association with the Black Cats, joining former team-mate Jerome Sinclair in the Netherlands. The 31-year-old has also played for Middlesbrough and Wigan Athletic in the Premier League. He was strongly linked with a reunion with Steve Potatohead, the man who signed him for both Wigan Athletic and Sunderland, at Sheffield Wednesday, but Bruce's defection to Skunkcastle put to bed that speculation. On Thursday it was announced by VVV-Venlo, of the Dutch Eredivisie, that Cattermole had joined them for training. VVV wrote on their website: "We have agreed with each other that in the upcoming period it will be considered whether or not the club and player fit together." The Limburg side recently signed one of Cattermole's former Sunderland teammates, Jerome Sinclair, on a season-long loan deal from Watford. he definitely won't like the Dutch tax system, one of the highest in europe along with cost of living, most of the English i knew there over my 18 year stay have move on like myself, nice for a visit but that's it
Rich people are tight as **** man...that's why they're rich ! I'd be bothered, surely he has other offers to consider which would be less of a hit on his pocket. As long as he stays away from our club I'll be happy. I was dreading the thought of Alex Bruce and Elmohamedy rocking up!
I was interested to see where he went after leaving as a comparison between how he was rated by us and the reality. Probably fair to say he wasn't drowning in offers, good luck to him with the trial.
If you listened closely during games that's what he was shouting about to his teammates, favourite tulip colour etc.
Footballers have ways and means around this most of the time - went to the Isle of Man into a "bank" where there were loads of plaques on the wall with "footballersname plc" - Top footballers in England. Stops them havign to pay the tax and I can imagine they'll know people who can advfise them on the best way around this
Goodluck to the lad, he spent the majority of his career earning Premiership wages, coupled with the fact he got 2 decent signing on fees aswell when he signed for Wigan and the us, he's gona be worth a fair few bob. His careers coming to an end now, who can blame him for choosing to experience a spell abroad before he hangs his boots up.
