Well, K Ball and K Phillips have tried or dipped their toes in the water. Cats should give it a go... see how it turns out.
Somebody like Gerrard was probably also going to be a manager, being a top player probably helps ( As with Paddy Vieira) ... but managing is a different skill especially with very well paid, pampered prima donna's, a la Romulu Lukaku.
Yelling and bullying, which I imagine Catts might be prone to, is probably not the way to go, expecially with the young'uns.
But yes I would be interested to see him in the Sunderland set-up.

Really Good read that, interesting insight into his approach and application. He always tried hard for our club, and I'm sure he would be just the same at his other clubs. I wish him every success in the future.
Underrated player for me, got a bad reputation as a dirty player. There are times he got sent off that wouldn't have even been a yellow for Gerrard mentioned above who got away with some over the years cause of who he was.

Hmm, like many others I like Catts.
But, one of memories of him, is a ref telling him quite calmly and fatherly to go easy, somebody had skipped past him and cos his little legs weren't quick enough he tried to foul him, in a sort of red mist kind of way. The ref let him off.
2 minutes later somebody else skipped past him, this time he did chop him down, Lee said to the ref "sorry", the ref muttered, "Lee lee" and booked him. At times he could not help himself...
What a clueless comment.
It’s an opinion of a lot of our fans. No idea why as I never saw him be “poison” personally. Always seemed to want the best fir the club and always gave his all.
Agree with this, never gave less than 110%. Also his card ratio was never as bad as some people used to make out
If we had a Cattermole in our side right now...we would walk this division.

Was a fantastic player and servant for us.
He was a big part of why we stayed in the premier league so long. We’ve also missed him since he left.
Very effective player at times but I wouldn't have him coaching youngsters given his history for ****e behaviour.
Like smashing up cars in Newcastle? (Which, apparently, he and Bendtner took the rap for when it was youngsters who’d done it)
That's a comical story and I don't buy it at all. Even if it is true it shows appalling judgement and dishonesty towards the people paying your wages. Senior players acting that way is far more damaging to a club than a couple of knobhead youths.
As far as I'm aware he actually got ****ing banned from entering Yarm at one point.
I just wouldn't run the risk of it personally. Beyond the nonsense he's simply not the kind of personality I'd be looking to bring the kids through. Just my point of view, I understand people thinking differently.
We had a Cattermole in the side for the first season in this division - Cattermole. How did that go? We had a Cattermole in the side for our free-fall through the Championship.
I should point out that he looked a great acquisition in the first year he was here, but gradually he became too powerful amongst the players due to the amount of mutinies and other corrosive behaviours he was either actively invlolved in or tacitly endorsed by not nipping them in the bud as Captain. Add to that his constant fitness issues due to lifestyle choices he made meaning his legs were well away by the time he was still a young man, and the faff over his departure and money. He was a key part of the toxic culture around the club for a decade and somehow we look back on the bulk of the time circling the plughole as some kind of golden era.
I wonder what he wrote in his notebook - is it just 'Tuesday Club' over and over again?
Short pulled the plug on investing in the squad - we lost maja, then the 2 chancers tried to make 10m and cost cut to the detriment of the squad.... But yeah, it was all poison Cattermole fault.
Top bloke was Cattermole, great servant of the club, would have him back if there was a position for him.
I was a fan of his but have to admit that far too often his judgement was terrible.
IF you are going for a risky tackle, the outcome has to be worth that risk.
Too often he picked up cards for pointless tackles.
For example, bringing an opponant down, near the touchline in the opponants half of the pitch where no harm was being done, was a luxury that we could rarely afford.
But this had to be balanced by his 100% effort and his ability to bring the best out of others.
IF you are going for a risky tackle, the outcome has to be worth that risk.
