with Flyer on this we need a larger number than 5 or 6 in the next 12 weeks ... The core is there no doubt but just look at the Everton game last season it could of been 7 nil

This team and squad was put together to win the league take away the loans and the players who can't cut it ... we are well short IMO

There is no mid table anymore ... one or two sides will fall away and the rest will only become tighter IMO

We had a beautiful team spirit under NW and I thought that would give us a Southampton type effect ... i was very wrong at 8th then

7 bad results between Cardiff and Saints last year ... could fall next year to 5 or 6 games

LR will be key with a much tighter approach away from home ... we need two sides to do that or expect a lot of ball chasing. We finished being outplayed percentage wise ... we need to keep the ball and to Harold's credit he got that going well in the championship. We look very poor without the ball IMO

Damage, there was no one-off game. There were 49 games. The 46 to get us into the Playoffs and then three (not one) very competent and professional performances to win them. You simply cannot, and can never say of a team that has succeeded in its missionl after a 49 games season, that they either fluked it or did it despite the Manager. It simply does not happen, especially when you remember the wretched state the squad was in this time last year.

If you never said we won't go up, then I do apologise.

People keep repeating this and it drives me absolutely insane. Every single promoted side needs strengthening during the Summer. Its completely natural. You win promotion out of the NPC and then you add to your squad to compete at the next level. Do you think Hull, who finished with less points than us last season, didn't know this? How about Palace who finished a full 8 points off our recent total, last year? Didn't they know they had to strengthen? And they're just two examples from last season. That's replicated every single year when teams go up.

And guess what? We will add to the squad.

Do you really think we'll not sign any players this Summer Damage?

C'mon, stop hating on Harry and everyone else and be positive. We're in a great position and I truly believe we'll consolidate our position next season because after we bring in a few new faces we'll have a squad well capable of competing.

Come what may. I will be chuffed to bits when the season kicks off, whoever we've signed. And will be behind the lads every step of the way. You R'S!

Too busy today at work to break that down so I’m just going to use a famous Mark Twain quote – I’m sure this same argument will be had plenty more times between now and August

“Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience”.

It is indeed a catch 22 imo.
However, I really don't want to see us signing another 10-12 players. That's just too many to bed in at once imo. I'd keep Dunne and Hill as back up CBs. I'd like us to get 1 new CB, a RB, an attacking creative midfielder and a couple of forwards. That's 5.....maybe I'd stretch to 1 or 2 more, probably midfielders, but that's it.

We could do well with this team:
    --------------------------Green--------------------------
    Simpson/New?------Onuoha-------New CB?------------Yun
    ---------------Barton----------Faurlin--------------------
    Hoilett-------------------New?---------------------Phillips
    ---------------------Austin-------------------------------

That's OK but there's still another 14 players to make a squad, that's when we get into the likes of Jenas, SWP, O'Neill, AJ etc

We can't go into a season without loans and just 3 forwards. The forwards and goalies make up 4 new players alone.

It's almost worth staying in the Championship to be shot of this twit. I had forgotten what an annoying boil on the bum he is.

Yep, thats what I'd like on reflection. I'm just sick of seeing new faces all the time. The two new starters will have to be bloody good mind, and there has to be a question mark over Faurlin ( but he would be by far the longest serving R in this team) which I hope will be quickly removed. Then we have to decide how good the back up needs to be. I think we still have Henry on contract, do we keep O'Neill, Doyle etc on sensible contracts?

Those 9 are decent players, the new face in the hole is the critical one. Of course, it doesn't necessarily need to be a new face.......

I didn't dare mention his name mate. :emoticon-0112-wonde

Flyer is right, in that we need more to make the squad competitive. O'neill I'd keep and Henry. I'd keep Jenas if he ever plays again after another serious injury. Maybe the other new players could be young and up-coming players that would be good squad players?

I just don't think it will work if we try to build yet another complete team.....or near enough!

Oh he's just got little man syndrome. Treat him like an annoying fly and swat him away like the irrelevance he is. Then he can go back to hanging around a sheep's bum and enjoying the smell.

You'd hope that, having endured 49 games of Championship football, we'd have spotted a few decent young(ish) players worth a punt. Philips and Austin were very good buys, a couple more just before they hit their level when we bought them would be handy. Mind you, can't say anyone other than Burnley and Derby players stood out for me.

Of course we will probably do our usual and get a few season long loans on deadline day. Anybody remember how many we are allowed in the Premiership? Hopefully not the infinite number the FL sanctions.

Agree with that side Col.... I said on the Granero thread that I reckon he should play in the middle with Hoilett & Phillips either side, so that could be one place sorted if he stays and is up for it........

We also have Harriman coming back from a season on loan at Gillingham and as we know he had a triffic debut at Liverpool in our last prem game so maybe it is time to give him a chance, although I feel that may be harsh on Simpson.....

It's maybe too soon to throw Donaldson in at CB but if the worse comes to the worse, give him a go as he would have learnt an awful amount working with Dunne and Hill this season.....

So maybe 5 or 6 decent signings would be all we would need......

Maybe a cheeky £5m bid for Blondie from Derby might be in order or Thorne who was at Derby on loan from West Brom could be good business.....

I dont think its a case of wanting to sign 8 or 9 its having to.

we have a lot of out of contract players that we wont see again. ( thank god)

    Swp
    johnson
    zamora
    benayoun.
    hughes

we had players in on loan and out on loan . A lot wont play for us again.

I think in current squad we have only the following good enuff for epl.

green. Simpson. Onoha. Dunne (????), yun. Barton . Hoillet. Faurlin. Phillips and austin.

If all the loanees go back ( I would sign morrison and doyle) and all the out of contract players leave ( I dont think any of them are good enuff for Pl )

And if mbia cesar remy taarabt and granero are sold.

    That leaves us seriously short

Cant be arsed with this thread..

Weve got people who said redknapp wouldnt get us up, people who said they hated all our games and didnt want to go & people who said we werent good enough all making excuses togehter...Comical

Stan - for the record - you said you were bored to tears of watching that dross last season, and at no time do i ever (prior to Wigan) remember you saying that you had enjoyed watching a game. i think your opening statement was incorrect mate.
It was one of the MAIN reasons i stopped posting for a while...along with Flyers incessant drivel.

Im happy to be proven wrong but from recolection (bearing in mind its 4am here) there were only a few of us (Swords, Eamon etc) who were willing to give the team and harry the season to prove themselves.
Im not saying they were great, but, we are in the Prem now, without that Marrocon clown and have won a final at Wembley. I think that firmly puts the doubters to bed.
Whilst i respect everyones entitlled ment to an opinion, the bull**t backtracking is getting tedious.

Why cant we just be happy for the fact that we're up? I lok at the Burnley and Leicester boards and find no sign of in fighting etc, yet here we still have Flyer telling us Harry is crap, Damage telling us we need the fat fool back etc.....

    FFS..We're supposed to be celebrating....!

    SORRY RANT OVER !
