11 in 19 isn't proven goalscorer, it's a good start. Yes he may have scored 20-25 goals in 2010-11, but he may have only scored 1 or 2. At Liverpool he had enough chances to score goals, he didn't. I don't see him ever scoring 25 goals in a single season, and if he scores 20 goals it'll be a once in a lifetime season. He is a proven player, in the same way that Rory Delap and Lee Cattermole are proven premiership plsyers (because he has been there for the last two years playing regularly), but he is not a proven goalscorer. Plus I think that if you are a player who will regularly score 20-25 goals in the premier league, you will score at least 15 even if the style of play doesn't suit you. Basically, he has been abysmal for 18 months.
You are right, I dont know, nobody does. But it was my opinion and the opinion of the majority of people who knew anything about football. He wouldnt have gone for so much money if he hadnt proved himself at Newcastle at the time.
No, you don't understand. Carroll definitely would have scored 20-25 if he stayed at Newcastle, and that means he's a proven goalscorer at Premier League level, apparently.
Well he would've gone for a massive sum because Liverpool enjoy overspending - £20m on Henderson, ffs.
No, he wouldn't have gone for so much money if Liverpool hadn't just fleeced Chelsea for £50 million for a crocked Fernando Torres and desperately needed to spend some of it to appease their fans with time running out on deadline day. A man in the Sahara will pay £50 for a bottle of water...
Yeah, even I can't defend you there Frank. His price tag was down to Liverpool's stupidity, rather than Carroll's ability.
Oh dont get me wrong, his price was ridiculous. But even if his price was more fair, at the time it would have still been a significant sum.
Had Messi played as a longball target man he wouldnt score as many as a with a passing game. Doesnt make him a bad striker does it??
I don't know, his pace running on to long balls would make him very dangerous still. Plus he wouldn't drop down to 6 goals in 42 games.
I'm sorry, but saying Messi is unlikely to score 6 in 42 is far less of an assumption than saying Carroll would have scored 25 goals in 2010-11.
West Ham won't buy him. For some reason I think Liverpool would laugh at us if we were to propose such a deal, yet I strongly assume we are in a better finical position had those hoofers. This is just a sneaky Fat Sam technique to get a striker they couldn't afford in to keep em up this year.
Guys leave off Frankimus, you all know what he means, stop being pedantic! The conversation is clearly ridiculous. OF COURSE Carroll will suit West Ham's style better than Liverpool's. OF COURSE Leo Messi is better than Carroll. OF COURSE Emile Heskey is better than both of them.
Liverpool are set to lose a lot of money on this deal, but they seem comfortable getting ripped off don't they. Alberto Aquilani & young Jordan have made the £35m for Andy seem reasonable!
