Well, all the morons who said we should take Holt over Carroll have been well and truly proven wrong.

And I expect an apology from those numpties who laughed when I said that the foreign defenders wouldn't be able to handle Carroll.

Looks like I've been proven right about Richards over Johnson, Ferdinand over Terry, Johnson over Milner and Carrick over anyone as well.
 
Pfft, dream on. There is no way to say you have been proved right with those opinions of yours. Theres been 2 games and England havnt been great in either one

Carroll over Holt, yes. He was hitting form (finally) towards the end of the season and was more deserving of a place than Holt, if holt was younger though then it may have been a different story but theres no point in introducing a player to the international stage when he only has a couple of years at most to give. I actually would have seriously considered Lambert from Southampton, he has every part of his game already there and looks class. Although in lower leagues he will have absolutely no issues stepping up to the Prem and is probably the most complete striker I have seen in years.

I still say Richards over Johnson, We havn't played against a good team yet and conceded 3 goals in two games which is not good enough for a team that is supposedly one of the better in the tournament. Ferdinand over Terry? Yes, Terry is poor and is due a huge mistake, he doesn't look good enough and is now getting on in years, saying that I wouldn't have taken Ferdinand either but I would have been more likely. The other I agree with you

As proven by the awful defensive performance yesterday. And our complete inability to keep the ball would be at least partly solved by Carrick.

It's harder to score goals in the premiership than international football, most international teams would struggle in the prem, Sweden, Ukraine are they top 6 quality nope! Well Holt has scored many times against top 6 prem teams, including goals against some of the players in the England team, so are they not good enough if Holt cam score against them... Only a few international teams are of really high quality.

Yes Carroll over Holt. I would have taken Richards over Johnson initially but he than ruled himself out by throwing a tantrum after being put on the standby list. I would have taken Terry over Ferdinand, more confident after the season and has always tried harder and played better for England. And ffs for the last time...

Carrick also never really played that well in an England shirt anyways; Mind you I dislike seeing Gerrard Playing in his "Disaplined role". He just cant seem to handle it defensivly (this is coming from a Liverpool fan). Good passes he made though yesterday, I guess that makes up for it partly. Still you could argue that Carrick could bring this in to the team also.

Would like to see Kelly infront of Johnson next game; he needs pracise as he is the better defensive RB option (that we brought along) for if /when we reach better oposition. I would consider replacing Lescott too as he was not at his best!

Carroll as far as I was concerned was man of the match yesterday; he not only scored but argubly he was our best player in DEFENCE yesterday, providing great clearences against a tall team. Thats how poor our defence was XD.

Carrick never retired, he told the FA that he didn't want to be part of Capello's England side only to sit on the bench all of the time, Hodgson even admitted that he never actually contacted Carrick himself, he left him out based on the FA's previous contact with him which was before Roy had even been appointed manager.
 
Maybe today isn't the day to hail Johnson, seeing as he was totally at fault for Sweden's first goal?
He dawdled in the box, playing Mellberg onside, before putting through his own net in an attempt to correct his own mistake.

And he doesn't deserve to be let back in. IMO you don't refuse to play for your country because the current manager won't put you in the starting 11, and Carrick is nowhere near good enough to be worrying about him not being in the squad. He's made his bed just like Richards.
 
It was agreed that Carrick would go to Euro 12 if he was going to play - but not to go and just train as needs to rest an injury
I think Carroll was the right selection for the future
Agree that taking Richards was a mistake, but then again he then refused to go on the stand-by list (so missed out when Cahill injured), so how commited to the cause is he??

Richards was stupid because he's still young enough to have a good England career if he didn't throw a tantrum, but I understand why Carrick made his decision, after all he isn't getting any younger and probably decided he'd had enough after years of flying all over the world only to sit in the dugout and watch the "better" players fail time after time.

He then caused the second goal by being hopelessly out of position, meaning Milner had to foul Olsson(?) to stop him running clear, and they scored from the free kick.

An horrific player.

Wait. i can't actually find anyone here praising Johnson's performance, whose post is this referring too? XD

Kelly is our better RB option in terms of defense. Johnson is an attacking Right back (but he makes mistakes defensively); This is how it works at Liverpool anyways. I would of gone with Richards for England though imo.
 
Pete Doherty, your "I told you so" post is a pretty feeble attempt to take the credit. Carrick and Richards ruled themseles out through their own arrogance and Ferdinand or Adam Johnson wouldn't have made a lot of difference anyway. England aren't playing spectacularly, but at least they're showing far more determination than they did in 2010, which is all we can ask without any real standout players.
