Carroll a Martyr?

Lots of people seem to disagree with the OP but in a way I think hes right in the fact that it was a good thing we sold him...

If selling Carroll (only played half a season in the Premier League basically) for £35 mil which means we can get players like Gervinho and Cabaye, then I for one dont hate him at all.. The guy left to get more money, this is not something new, infact it is the most common thing to occur in the working world...

Yeah he left at a bad time, but he would have just left in the summer for way less...
So all in all its worked out best for both partys

Do I hope he does well for Liverpool kinda, but if he scores against us I will be fuming

 

It's the fact that he said several times he never wanted to leave Newcastle and knew what was to be the number 9 that bothers people. It was an increase on an already high salary by "working world" standards that caused him to go back on his word of loyalty; loyalty being one of the most prided traits of local NUFC players by the fans.

This whole **** worked out far better for us though I agree, if we get to spend this cash we're far better for it but he can still piss off for the above reasons.

 

No, I disagree. We could have accepted 10 million and he would have received the same contract offer at liverpool. The fact that it was 35 million only eases his departure.

Exactly. Whether it helps us or not (I've no doubt it will) theres no possible way that he moved to Liverpool because he thought the money would be better for Newcastle than he would be. He moved for the money, plain and simple. I suppose Torres was doing Liverpool a favour too?

Also, to add to this, you see a lot of footballers saying they've left negotiations to their agents to sort out. It allows the players to concentrate on playing or having a rest in the post-season (at least during the early negotiations).

 

I'm not going to waste emotion hating Carroll.

But if the equestion is, what sort of opinion should we have of him, then my answer is this.

He claimed he loved this club, that getting the number 9 shirt and playing in front of 50,000 other Toon fans was the his dream come true, and that he wasnted to spend his career here. A lot of us beleived it. And then someone said "The scouse pay more" and he ****ed off. Conclusion ? Lying greedy toe rag.

We got a lot of money for him. That has no relevance to the concusion set out above.
