Now the 'Capital One Cup' for at least 4 years.

Round One commences mid-week, the Tuesday before the start of the season, which is also new.

As some have pointed out, it is no longer the CC, but the COC.

This means Liverpool are currently holders of the COC. (You might get the joke)

Weird name, gonna take some getting used to for me.

Cringeworthy sponsorship deals be damned, I'm calling it the League Cup. Yeah that's right, **** you capitalism.

It is the League Cup; has always been the League Cup, since its inception, and remains the League Cup, despite whoever sponsors it. I've always liked the League Cup too. Bet Liverpool like it too.

I couldn't give two hoots who sponsors it.

<applause>

There is hope in this world after all.

Why have football fans allowed this take over of the name? The Premier League Champions are just that to all of us; the winners of the FA Cup ditto. We don't think to suddenly add the sponsors name, or even worse as in this case replace the name with the sponsor's name.

Reds in Liverpool used to call this the Mickey Mouse until they won it as The Milk Cup and then it became a major trophy (lah!). And this really tells us why we have allowed this take over because no-one gets excited about this trophy until the latter stages. The trouble with a tournament that has mid-week fixtures scattered about and a final in mid-season is that it is hard to get excited about. I truly hope that Saints take both this and the FA Cup seriously. I for one would love to watch Kelv lift either cup and just scrape it in the league than settle for a trophy-less season where we end up 15th.

Yeah, the League Cup for me. Capital One are the only company I have ever had to contact requesting that they stop mailing me. Every 6 weeks another application form to apply for one of their credit cards was on my doormat. It began to feel like they were stalking me!
I have a slight soft spot for the Milk Cup mind you. Rather quaint, the attempts to make milk something which adults might drink!

So the captain of the winning team gets to lift his Coc up in public.

And they show these games live on telly before the 9 o'clock watershed!

The league cup has been called so many things, I can't possibly get angry about this. It does however seem more apt when you can fill the cup with the sponsor's liquid product and drink it out of the cup.

When i first read it i thought it was Capital cup, i thought that sounded decent better than Carling cup

Thank goodness this wasn't expected when Saints won the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
