Come on Wizey, get your facts right.

We weren't beaten at home by Macclesfield in the cup - we were up there and put out our development squad that day.

Full of 17 to 19 year olds with an unfit 33 year old McPhail captaining them.

we seem to struggle against the weak teams in this league, on paper this is a case of how many goals we can score in 90 mins, but as i said, against fodder like bristol, so far this season we havent done as well as we should.......

i agree with a comment made on our board, if we win this then we may never play you again unless things turn around for bristol in the next few years, so enjoy this match lads, win or lose make the most of it <ok>

I've learnt in my lifetime that one should never say "NEVER" because such statements have a habit of coming back and biting one in the ass.

And I still believe that Howells, Stitfall, Sherwood, Baker, Montgomery, Harrington, Tapscott, Blair, Ford, Chisholm and Edwards were better by a country mile than your current team!

Cider - my dad's favourite player was Ron Stitfall - he used to rave about him all the time. A full back with legs like tree trunks and a ball breaking tackle who took no prisoners. Not sure who had the biggest legs, either him or Alf Sherwood.

I was lucky enough to just vaguely remember seeing Derek Tapscott in his last season at Ninian - I think I was just out of my pram inabout 62-63? <laugh>

Alan Harrington was a club hero. He was there after Tappy (I think?) and only played for Cardiff throughout his career. I think he had to pack it in when he broke his leg playing for new manager Jimmy Scoular at the beginning of the best 10 years I can remember at Cardiff since the present time. <ok>

My first game at Ninian was a second division v Swansea Town in March 1951, with over 40,000 there. They went up that season to Div One. I think I got the right winger wrong as Tapscott came later. It was Mike Tiddy.
Yes Stitfall was a big guy built like an ox. Sherwood was smaller but quick and extremely hard. Dad took me to three successive league matches v Blackpool so I could see Stan Matthews, but he was always injured for that game. The locals used to say he was scared of being kicked up and down by Alf.
Trevor Ford and Chisholm were two big lads as well who both stood at the far corner of the penalty area for corner kicks. As soon as the kicker started his run up, they set off at full pace toward the penalty spot and god help anyone who got in their way.

The other event I remember was Field Marshal Montgomery being presented to the teams before a match v Wolves and in the Echo (?) that evening a photo recorded Monty, the soldier and quite short, shaking hands with and looking up to Stan Montgomery who was about 6ft-1in. That Wolves team was like seeing a who's who of English football of the day with internationals almost everywhere in the side. But then Cardiff would usually have at least 8 or 9 internationals every game.

Yet in spite of al those boyhood memories, the ones that are really clear are those when we've beaten you at Ninian. The one's most enjoyed by my father even though he originally came from the Rhondda. So here's to another win for the greatest club on earth Bristol City, even if we don't have the greatest team. Enjoy the game Sparkey.

For some reason over the past few seasons when we played Cardiff we played in our Black kits. Never knew why that was, anyone else know?

Do clubs have to wear the away kit a minimum number of matches in the season? Maybe to qualify for the free supply from manufacturers? That would explain why teams play in the change strip even when they do not need to.

Cardiff v City makes me think of 2 goal celebrations.
One of course, is Scott Murray running down the touchline holding his hand to his ear - the other was Chopra 2-3 years ago when he took off his boot and dropped it because it was so hot - hated it at the time, but it was quite good

And it all ended in tears as Murray and the rest of wurzelville left Ashton Gate in tears as we dumped you out in the play offs as we ended up promoted.

Good lower league player Murray - just couldnt cut it higher.

We should beat you easily. League table doesnt lie. We are the best team in the league and you lets face it are rubbish.

Problem is we seem to lose or drop points to the rubbish. You , PBoro , Bolton and we dropped home points to Ipswich.

Think you need 3 against us or Palace or there may be no coming back.

So your going to count games before 1982?

Thats when the current Bristol City formed.

You did always seem to beat us when I was younger.

We were utter rubbish for most of the mid80s and 90s. Hereford used to beat us.

To me though the only games which had anything big on them was the play offs.

League table then showed you were the better team.

    But we turned you over.

Saturdays just another 3 points. For us to our promotion target yourselves to avoid the drop.

Different year. You lot beat us in the play offs after we beat you 2-0 home and away.. Talk about luck.

And you won't beat us easily.. trust me on that.

I wont argue we win most games by the odd goal.

I do expect Malky to target Heaton and his lack of height at set pieces. It could come down to that.

And who is to say the same thing won't happen this time you higher in the table and we do the double football is full of little oddities like that. When Southampton went up we beat them home and away even though we were poor then.

Speaking to some Cardiff fans today, they were saying that given our form they were actually worried about playing us.
