Nope. I agree the topic was a wum. Let's not have an eppy about it. It's been moved, if you wan't to continue the discussion, carry on.
Cheers H, Though if politely asked why I did something I have no problem talking it through. Afterall, my job is to improve the experience on the board. I have no problem with visitors to the board, it's just when it gets personal and no relation to anything sporting.
Hi John and swans-m. I've been following your discussion about our respective following. First of all John, what was this evening game that attracted 55,000 in the seventies? The only game I can remember that pulled more than 50k in the seventies was a cup game against top tier opposition in the form of Arsenal, and that was an afternoon game. Our really big crowds came in the 60's either because we were in the top flight or because we were playing against top notch european sides. You also have to remember that those were the days of cheap admission prices and vast standing areas and, before hooliganism reared it's ugly face on the terraces of football grounds. Swans-m. To be honest mate, when we were in the lower reaches of the league we would have been delighted with crowds of 5-6k. Sometimes we were lucky to get half of that. The question of the comparable sizes of clubs is an old one and the arguments go round and round and get really stale. If you make per capita comparisons between Cardiff and Swansea it's pretty much clear that the clubs are pretty much equal in their fan bases, though Swansea does come out fractionally better. While we arrogantly row between ourselves about the best supported club in Wales, we forget about Wrexham, who for the size of their population and catchment area, are miles ahead of the pair of us - and this with some rather illustrious neighbours. Like many clubs, Cardiff and Swansea will be well supported when they are doing well on the pitch - there is statistical proof. Call it fickle or plastic or whatever you like, but the thousands of extras that come when we are doing well are in fact as much of a lifeblood to our clubs as us faithfuls who stick with it regardless. One last thing. It's a shame that when having some banter about football, there is a tendancy by some to start insulting our respective cities. This is a shame because they are two magnificent cities with much going for them, and both should be a source of pride to Welshmen. As for our Welsh brothers and sisters in Swansea not enjoying the best of moods at the moment, perhaps it's worth looking at the levels of investment in both cities and see which one is going to suffer the worst and most in economic downturns. Incidently, it is only a few years ago that Cardiff was recorded as the least happy city in England and Wales - it's all cobblers.
Clingo i ment 35549 ,it was v Hereford in the old 3rd Div 1977-76 season ,im 21 so had to listen to storys fron me dad about it ..............still not a bad crowd for the 3rd league of that time eh? Think Swamp was just saying what a poll said by locals down swansea and not making it ...........just a question ,who do you think is biggest football club in Wales? JH .
Clingo, another fantastic post mate, hats off to you. John, does it really matter? At the end of the day, were both Welsh clubs doing very well. You have a bigger attendence, we are in a higher league. It's of no importance. What is important is that Welsh football as a whole is on the up.
i was merely discussing the results of a BBC news report. i think it warranted a discussion on the board, pont decided to put it in here and i totally understand, no mention of which club was bigger.
John, I don't buy into this "bigger club" stuff as it makes us sound like some of those more tiresome Leeds fans that used to invade our board from time to time. In any case, what constitutes a big club? We certainly have the biggest catchment area in Wales which is also served by the biggest transport infrastructure, but we don't always get a crowd proportionate to these strategic advantages. Let's be honest, if we had still been in the lower reaches of the league while the Swans were in the top flight, I doubt we would be getting anywhere near their attendances. As mentioned earlier, the whole argument is futile, and as history proves, the "biggest" club in Wales will be the one doing the best. If we get into the Prem and join the Swans, I would expect our crowds to be more than theirs, but this would be solely due to demographics as mentioned before. If there are other criteria for identifying a "big" club, then I apologise for misinterpreting your question.
the only thing thats certain here is cardiff fans got bigger balls than swansea fans>>>>>>other than that...... we are all the same, all smelly ****s us welsh
When myself and fellow students from all parts of Britain have a natter about the biggest club like ,Barca or Madrid ....Man yoo or Arsanel .......Bayern or Hamburg ......Porto or Lisbon we dont get into the politics of the country or which city is more advantaged than the other is just about football and nearly 100% of the students seem to agree altho swansea are in the Prem at the moment they see Cardiff City as the biggest club in Wales . The poll Swamp put up seems to be truth as well as we all seem to see the locals down there not really happy with the state of the place and really do have a chip on their shoulders about what Cardiff always gets ,maybe its because we are their capital and lets be fair why build down there if your an invester if there is scope in the capital .
You know deep down ***ash that swansea will never be as big as Cardiff City ,no matter what league your in . This season will see and if it go`s tits up expect to see those 6000+ plastic dissapear as fast as they arrived ;O)
Was wondering when the childish insults would start to fly. Didn't even start on you, so don't be a Prat.
