On the flip side Elixir - DJ managed to keep us in the same division which also took some doing Malky goes where Malky goes - its all conjecture. Re Houses: No matter how big yours is, I can still blow it up...I'm happy in my bunker
What is a "bid house"? I wasn't planning to sell let alone via an auction? LOL If you have access to Google Street map, look up The Avenue, Bushey and then dream. We're pretty happy where we are - and I have a small mortgage. Put another way, I have more cash than the plumb who is running Watford FC! I am fully aware that Watford are going to struggle next season, and we are/were depending on MacKay to help us defy the odds. If he leaves then I will still go to Vicarage road (I've already paid for 3 season tickets), but I will make sure the plumbs in suits know my feelings!
lol - did you seriously say "and then dream"? - it looks just the same as any number of 'Avenues' in Cardiff. Anyway, once a football thread descends into 'who lives in the better looking place', it's time for me to move on because that thread is dead.
As I said in my 1st post to you, "It seems to me that you might know more about house prices than football...Wrong board I think you’re looking for a monopoly board." You have done nothing to change my mind, stay in Bushey playing with your subbuteo, that will be the closest you'll get to football. PITY
At the moment being a Watford fan is like going on the summer holidays, everything is going to plan - and then the car gets a puncture and you find yourself getting overtaken by some old mingers - Brighton, Peterborough. The other cars that you were keeping up with are now disappearing off into the distance. And quite simply I know the new owners of our football club are starting to throw away many years of good, hard work. Looking at Cardiff's history, you were relegated in 1962 and have spent the last 50 years bouncing between the bottom 3 divisions. My children wont want to support my club in the nether regions of football. Simple really.
so to sum up, you still dont think mackay would jump at the chance at managing a team with triple the budget, from managing watford, who as you say are ranked as 'relegation certainties'. there was a quote on one of the national newspapers from mackay's agent who said that cardiff would be an 'interesting prospect' , so your theory that were not good enough a team for him, when no team in the premiership would take a punt on a championship manager, is, with respect, complete baloney. dont get me wrong i'm not denying mackay wont be a premiership manager at some point in the future, just that if we came in for him, he would snap our hands off to be our manager, if we fail to land either hughton or di matteo whom we all want. also, i dont know why you are mentioning our history of being crap in the past 50 years, all that matters is that we've been in this league 6 years, and in the past 3 have been promotion contenders. you might as well go on about how crap wigan / bolton etc have been in the past 30 years - it means f*** all mate, its the present that matters
Swamp you say about MacKay "he would snap our hands off to be our manager, if we fail to land either hughton or di matteo whom we all want." So MacKay is 3rd choice in your book behind 2 out of work ex managers. Ask Watford fans what Graham Taylor did in June 1977 when the WBA chairman told Taylor that "he should give his right hand for the chance to manage West Brom". History proved that Taylor was right when he replied "I dont give my right arm for anything". Ron Atkinson took over West Brom instead. How many ex managers are welcome at Cardiff? I doubt if you would even welcome John Toshack back? Let me tell you he isn't that desperate as he turned down Burnley last season and there isn't much difference between Cardiff and Burnley? We just think Malky "deserves" a Premier League team, had Martinez not stayed at Wigan the specualtion would have been rife about him going there. And Wigan are in a better financial state than Cardiff. I acknowledge they have no supporters, but Wigan is a friendly club where MacKay would be instantly welcome. I personally think Aston Villa would do well to choose MacKay.
1) well his agent said cardiff would be an 'interesting prospect' so i think i'll take the agents word for it to be honest. 2) you know they wont though.
The Cardiff rank & file are a tough crowd & some managers will bypass the headaches of having to deal with an angry mob , if things don't go well the first bit . Just an opinion gents .
Whether you want me to or not, I'm going to point out a few facts to YOU: Roberto Martinez would not turn down Man City to stay at Wigan. Wigan cannot afford to pay him as much, and don't have the same calibre of players. Man City will be challenging in the top four again next seaon, whereas Wigan will once again be favourites for the drop, and rightly so. Put simply, Martinez has wet dreams about managing a team like Man City. Malkay Mackay would not turn down Cardiff City to stay at Watford. Watford cannot afford to pay him as much, and don't have the same calibre of players. Cardiff City will be challenging in the top four again next seaon, whereas Watford will once again be favourites for the drop, and rightly so. Put simply, Mackay has wet dreams about managing a team like Cardiff City. But I will leave you with a small piece of advice, pull your head out of your arse, and you might not be blind to the truth for the rest of your life. All the best.
Luke, you win the prize - Biggest plumb on this board - Well Done!!! Malky does not have "wet dreams" about anything! He wont turn Cardiff down to stay at Watford "forever". He will turn Cardiff down because he knows there are many clubs better than Cardiff. I would rate Swansea well ahead of Cardiff as they have been building what they have for quite a while - they may have just been promoted with Brendan Rogers, but they have been progressing steadily towards this for a few years. Cardiff have hit the buffers and sacked Dave Jones. Cardiff now need to rebuild, 1st question is do they have any youngsters coming through? You may not have noticed all of the home grown talent at Watford, why would you as you clearly don't have a clue. "Watford cannot afford to pay him as much as Cardiff". What a tremendous boast ....... of course Cardiff would offer him more money D'oh!!!! LOL. Malky is biding his time waiting for the right opportunity, in the meantime we love him at Watford. When he leaves (maybe this week, month etc.) we will give him our blessing. Yes he WILL leave us with a big hole to fill, and it may take us a while to recover, but honestly he can do so much better than Cardiff.
come on watford fans, tell me right now who would give a championship manager a job in the premiership right now? your completely delusional if you think a top team in this day and age will pluck a manager from watford who has shown he can deliver a few decent finishes on a shoestring. the only way he will get to manage in the premiership is if he manages a team with realistic aspirations of promotion and gets there himself. when did you last see a manager go from one job in the championship to one in the premiership? as you have said, you are a low budget team which mackay has got you supposedly punching above your weight. we on the other hand have punched below our weight, and we have a higher budget, and will pay the manager more. i know which club i'd choose if i were mackay.
Swamp, that post was a good read (honest). I agree with many of your points, I think MacKay would be attractive to the likes of Wigan and Villa just off the top of my head. Listening to our local BBC stations they have heard some very interesting things in the away press rooms. For example the likes of Nottingham Forest and Sheffield United who both said something on the lines of "we run at a loss of over £15m per season, yet MacKay gets Watford playing like they do on peanuts - how on earth ..." and this makes us laugh. We know what a tight little ship Watford has to be as "our owners" are a bunch of ugly plumbs. Our named "new owner" is actually a bankrupt, and I cannot believe how he could pass the FA's "fit and proper test". So I have already come to the view that every year we need to punch above our weight just to survive in this division. But then we got promoted in 2005/6 with a smaller playing budget than we have now and we shocked this division (and Cardiff at Ninian Park 3-1!!). However we know that with the nutters we have in the boadroom we could be living on borrowed time? Because of this we need to hold onto MacKay. By the way who is the 60 year old accountant? My mortgage maybe nearly paid off, but I've just passed 45. Haha, maybe you thought it was me. Infamy, Infamy they've all got it in for me! LOL.
cheers mate, the only thing that has sort of p*ssed me off in this thread is the notion that we wouldnt be a step up for mackay, i suppose we'd have to actually approach you to find out lol, but seriously i wouldnt have any problem with him as manager at all. i'm also not saying mackay would be able to make the step up to being a PL manager, just that nowadays you wont see an aston villa, for example going for a homegrown championship manager, it would, rightly or wrongly, be seen as unambitious, rather than going for a 'name' like o neill or houllier. there have been several managers from the championship who have been successful in the PL, coyle, pulis, (hughton), steve bruce etc, they all took teams up from the championship. the only example i can think of in recent years is paul ince from MK dons to blackburn but that wasnt exactly what you'd call success.
