Come on Evans and McCarthy, how about showing us some real ambition and buy Jordan Rhodes from Middlesborough! He is available in January and is headed for a Championship club so why not us?

I think the £9 million or so price would probably be enough to put almost every club off. As much as it would be fantastic to bring him back here and see him bang in the goals, would he want to come back? And more importantly is he what we need?

There is a reason that Blackburn and now Boro seem happy enough to offload, the majority saying he offers nothing except when the ball is crossed into the box and we have a decent (cheaper/poor man's) alternative in Pittman. What we need is a more combative centre forward who can hold the ball up and lead the line.

    You mean like Murphy!

I still remember those great days when we had benty and kuqi up front! Magic days!

Come back Big Fat Joe all is forgiven! At least we were entertained with goals in them days,

Before we start talking about a decent target man we need to address the longer standing problem of a competent CM who can take the ball from the defence and provide killer forward passes to Grant or Lawrence to in turn cross the ball for said striker - but then some of us have been banging on about this basic flaw in our squad for years:headbang::headbang::headbang:

A proper Right Back would be nice oh and a replacement for the utterly useless Knudsen!

But remember, Mick has been saying for years that Skuse is Premiership class :emoticon-0136-giggl :emoticon-0127-lipss

In fairness we are supposedly looking at a young Box to Box midfielder from Blackpool - possibly a bid in January.

I do blame Evans for our situation, every quality player we've had over the last few seasons has been sold for many millions and replaced on the cheap and they don't come any cheaper than nothing, which is what Best cost us, so the quality level sinks lower while other teams invest and strengthen until we are left in the main with a team of mediocre also rans, Bart and Webster excluded.
As for the manager I don't particularly care who it is but nobody ever suggests a name who is available, who would get better results guaranteed with this squad, who come here to work under the same restrictions as MM, so who realistically are you talking about?
Spanish you've wanted Mick out even when we were second in the table and also when we made the play offs so no change there, we are what we are and that is a team filled with second rate players producing second rate football and that won't change until some money is spent on quality players, to make an analogy that's why a carthorse will never win The Derby, quality ingredients makes a quality product and that's why we are struggling.

I do agree to an extent, but I honestly think this is the best squad we've had in years, particularly when you compare man for man in the attacking positions.

    We have traded in:

    Tabb for Lawrence
    Anderson for Grant
    Smith for Webster
    Gerken for Bart
    Nouble for Pittman

We have a fairly strong bench most weeks, that include a couple of strikers and a certain Jonny Williams who should be getting more game time. The issue being the lack of a centre forward and perhaps most crucial, a manager who knows what to do with the level of ability in the squad

I don't understand why Williams isn't playing especially with the cost involved, Ward isn't worth his place at the moment so I'm sure Jonny could fit in, surely there's a place for quality and if not you make a place available.

Maybe the reason Williams does not play is that we have him on a pay-as-you-play deal, and the club are too skint to cash out for the minutes.

Genuinely bored of this season. So many issues with the current manager and the board. New full-backs, a decent, ball-playing holding midfielder, and a good striker.

9million spread over the years that we have spent nowt or next to it would not seem excessive.

Why even include him on the bench then.Totally agree with the rest of your post though.
