I'm still doubtful but if so, we've actually managed to stitch up a team rather than being the ones having to pay more. Feels nice being on this side of the table
I don't see how we could have negotiated it since Tom was out of contract. His age would have meant it went to a tribunal so we'd have gotten something, maybe the tribunal panel insisted on a sell-on clause? Would make sense for the club that's found and developed them gets a benefit should they prove to be successful for the thieving club
