I honestly don't know what to make of it all and I can't even make my mind up as to whether sacking MM is the right thing or not. If we were able to bring in a better coach/manager, and it's a big if, could he do any better with the players we have?
We're pretty much where we were at this time last year when Harris had to go.
I'm sure there are better footballing brains on here than mine, but I can't see a way out.

I was on a downer when I saw he'd gone with 5 CBs.
U don't mind us losing when we have game plan but for the last few weeks it's seemed more and more desperation.
3 CBs was a stretch for me but it worked defensively.
Now, not only cant we score but we're shipping goals for fun.
Injuries / illness aside, I cant get my head around selections of late.

He has to go. His position is untenable.

    Evening BfB.
I'm not saying you're wrong but who do we replace him with? It can't be another costly firefighting exercise.
We need someone to change the ethos and move us forward. I'm not sure we can afford that.
It's the same old issue that we have a board that doesn't really understand the game, let alone the modern game. Tan has saved us and I know we're all grateful. I just wish for our and his sake that he gets some football people in.

How much longer does big Mick have with you guys? 4 defeats on the bounce with Reading and the Jacks to come next. Lose those 2 and he's a goner surely?

McCarthy was brought in to do the right job, but was kept on to do the wrong job. The awarding of a two year contract to MM and TC on the strength of their first 8 or 9 games at the club last season is a prime example of the total ineptitude of those running the club for Tan.

We need to shift our footballing ethos up to date and it's not going to happen under this regime. Sad to say that I'd be very surprised if the bullet is bitten anytime soon such is the lethargy at board level over such matters.

If it is going to happen, it needs to be done well before Christmas to afford whoever's to take the club forward a transfer window to at least exchange a few old for new.

Even if there's to be little or no money made available, the right modern thinking manager will have sufficient time to change direction before we go down still kicking the ball up into the sky.

    Hi Clingo
I believe he must go now as his outdated, outmoded tactics (or lack of them) will drag us into a relegation fight, which I'm not sure the club has the ability to win.

I look at his comments in the last week "Other clubs have worked us out", no sh1t Sherlock and "I understand the fans' frustrations". No comment about changing things and doing something about it. If he ever had any passion for the game, he has now lost it? I would love to see video clips of the half and full time team talks.

Look at last night, 5 centrebacks plus Pack and Vaulks in the starting 11, Bacuna in I don't know what position - and neither did he. Collins, the clockwork mouse, up front - yes he runs and gives 100% effort until subbed off but so little skill and absolutely no goal threat.

Was that team picked to win a game or grind out a 0.0 draw? I know what I and those sat around me last night thought.

I agree the financial position of firing and hiring is tough and there is no guarantee a new guy will do any different but, once again, VT needs to check the back pocket for some change and do the right thing for the club - and his investment where the current value is diminishing daily and will plummet if we go down.

McCarthy might have saved us last season but he is killing us this season.

    McCarthy out!!!

Have to agree. I think if we lose those two then the axe will fall.

Crowds are starting to dwindle already and that will be the big factor in VT making the change IMO.
We had the same scenario under Russell Slade. Cut the squad, overachieve at the start in terms of league position, but then via a combo of a weaker squad and uninspiring football the results and performances start to suffer, crowd gets restless, the apathetic, then stop coming.

That of course hits revenue which is what hurts the club most.

Tough times but it's a cycle we and many others have endured before.

Driving back home about 180 miles from here on Friday (if I can get some fuel <doh>) so I should be back in time for Reading - but I wont be going.

That's just me, but I fully expect many others to vote with their feet as Brizz suggests. Time for a management/director shake up at the club, but I'm not sure how else to convince Mr. Tan other than direct action.

I'm not suggesting a repeat of the "colour change" marches, but this distrssing scenario cannot be allowed to go on until we're near or at the bottom of this division with little hope of redemption this season.

I honestly do think that many fans have had a bit of an awakening to entertainment outside of football during covid.

I personally haven't been to a game since the Newport friendly despite having opportunity to go for free (friends spare season ticket).

I'm struggling to get back into football full stop in many ways but for us in particular it's been very uninspiring in terms of performances.

Dare I say it, the team and club are taking on a persona to match big Mick by some weird form of osmosis or something.

The fact that he is still manager nearly 24 hours after that defeat is shocking.

If we cant afford to sack him and TC then put them on gardening leave and give it to Steve Morrison , the kitman , the ladies manager. Literally anyone. Ill have a go even.

He is utterly clueless. Last nights 5 man centre back defence 2 holding midfielders and a slow ageing striker who doesnt score plus add in our best keeper stays on the bench was the worst team selection ive ever witnessed.

All 7 subs should have been in the starting line up.

He didnt improve the central midfield after getting shot of the player he signed and had left us with no wingers apart from a loanee.

Saturday with him will be another loss and we are free falling towards relegation.

Our only chance is replacing him and quickly before we are firmly in the bottom 3.

Sack him we have a chance of staying up.

Keep Mick. We will go down.

Your thoughts are split into 9 paragraphs in your post - and I agree with every one of them.

Last night I witnessed 2 things:

    1. Performances from - in no particular order - Vaulks, Pack, Brown, Morrison, Nelson,Collins and Bacuna were as bad as I’ve ever seen in watching City regularly since the late 70’s. Worse than some of the pitiful displays in the old 4th division because they weren’t being paid £000’s.
    2. Fans including me were laughing at some of the astonishingly bad “football” from City.

    I can top that.

    1. Being away from home, I opted to pay another 10 quid to subject myself to it on TV.

    2. Streamed it to my laptop and miracast it onto a Sony 55" UHD TV up here. It would have been bad enough watching on the laptop.

I am now beginning to wonder what is happening in the dressing room in light of how quickly the team has imploded.

Picture the scene. The manager says “right we’re going to stop them scoring; 0-0 will be the aim. So I’m going to pick 5 central defenders to stop them attacking and the rest of you can help out when needed but don’t think about getting it near their goal. Giles is a decoy to give the impression we’re going to attack. Oh and forget the fans who’ve come to watch us...they’ll be over the moon with a 0-0.”

That went well as after 5 minutes the bricks in the brick wall crumbled as Morrison invited Grant to pick his spot.

It’s tempting to suggest MM wants to get sacked and certain players don’t care as their contracts aren’t going to get renewed.

It's difficult to be precise when apportioning blame. The wider aspects like team selection and tactics have got Mick's fingerprints all over them - he has to carry the can for that.

However, individual errors and general perfomances are down to the players. was it Mick's fault that Morrison failed to step out and close down Grant? Was it Mick's fault that Phillips thought his job was to find touch with his distribution?

Overall, there appears to be a downward spiral in the confidence of individuals coupled with a lack of pace in their minds and over the ground. Mick will try to force his way on precedings but I fear we've already gone down that route and he's failed to get a response - only a change at the helm will alter our course.

His pathetic press comments say to me that he has already given up. He's just waiting for security to knock on his door with a couple of cardboard boxes for his meagre belongings, including TC.

Simon Jordan has had his say and he hit the nail on the head suggesting City have no “football nous” and a “lack of intellectual capital “in running the club.

When is it going to be crystal clear to Tan he has unqualified people running the football side of the club?

The club needs to invest in qualified people to sort this club out and bring it up to date or it’ll just slip and slide towards Division 3.
