Wouldn’t it be super if we could bag another three points, and stick a big one up our magnificent adversaries eh? Terry Paine is not in their team so every reason to believe we can win 2 or 3 nil! :emoticon-0103-cool:

    And from my singing bollocks:

Not one for superstitions <whistle> but up into our last PL season City always won this fixture at home and never could win in Hampshire.

What happened in that PL season<doh>

Question. Name a player who played for both clubs; born in Cardiff and who lifted the FA Cup?

Looking forward to the trip up lads, my decision to buy a ticket justified it seems by this weeks events.

Huge game for both teams and I reckon it will be a tight affair with one of us nicking the odd goal. We've been awful defensively so you'll undoubtedly get chances.

Not really watched much of you lot this season, who are the players to watch out for?

You'll be more than welcome pal - especially if we win. :emoticon-0105-wink:

We are hard to beat at home and from what I've seen of you lot recently, at least you have a go for it. I'm expecting a really good game with chances either end - the winner will be the better side defensively. We've come back to win 3 times now after going behind so be prepared for a side that wont give up (not at home anyway <doh>).

I thought you were really unlucky to lose at Fulham - 2 goals away from home should have been enough to win it for you. The current bottom 6 or 7 teams will probably yield up the 3 that go down, so games such as this are crucial to survival. No point playing well against the big boys and losing games like this.

As far as our players to look out for is concerned, don't be surprised if Zohore gets a game and scores, cos we'll be ****ing amazed...<laugh>

Enjoy your trip up here, but not the one going back. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Well the defence has been our biggest problem really (though we don't score many either), so I'm sure it's the first thing Ralph will work on. Doubt he's had enough time to make a big impact on tomorrows match mind.

Strange really as I have no idea as what to expect team wise, he's said that players will have to run or fall by the side so that's Austin out of the equation, hopefully the young lad Obafemi gets another run out.

Smart money be on a 1-1 draw I reckon.

Must say a draw does look on the cards but I think we can force this one over the line. <ok>

It’ll be blood and thunder from City - last time Saints passed it round like Brazil - either new manager bounce or flop.

:emoticon-0103-cool: Today fellow sufferers, we host the mighty Southampton, who find themselves in a lowly position. We cannot take a win for granted because of the aforementioned lowly position, as it could be misleading! The best side will prevail and city to win by a comfortable three goal margin...why the fug not...they’re lowly!

Cardiff continue to face injury problems in attack, with makeshift striker Callum Paterson set to lead the line against Southampton.

Kenneth Zohore remains out with a calf injury, while Danny Ward and defender Jazz Richards are both unavailable and Gary Madine is a doubt.

Southampton captain Ryan Bertrand is a doubt, having missed the defeat against Tottenham with a back problem.

Michael Obafemi and Danny Ings have hamstring injuries and may miss out

@chriswisey: New Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl offered an early glimpse of his engaging personality at his unveiling this week.

Dubbed the 'Klopp of the Alps', the Austrian set about charming the media with analogies involving washing machines, and even one about the Titanic, which set sail from the city over 100 years ago.

His fresh approach is already enthusing Saints fans, but the proof will be provided in the crucial weeks ahead.

Many would have predicted Cardiff, rather than Southampton, would occupy a spot in the bottom three at the start of December but, typically, Neil Warnock's side are fighting tough.

The bulk of their points have come at home, where they've clearly found their feet.

Cardiff manager Neil Warnock: "Southampton have the fillip of a new manager, a spring in their step, and they'll all want to impress.

"He's done really well wherever he's been and that's the league we're in now as it's open to everybody.

"They've probably got the best squad in the bottom half of the division."

Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl on his nickname 'Klopp of the Alps': "I have heard about it. I don't like it so much; I want to be my own character.

"I was always a friend of his from football. He has a very proactive way of playing, and made a big mark in Germany. That kind of football really influenced my style.

"If I could do similar it would be fantastic for me, but that is too far away.

"We have other targets, goals and problems. The first target is to move as quickly as you can out of this relegation zone."

Cardiff have won three of their last four home games, and I can see them getting another victory here.

    Prediction: 2-1

Lawro's full predictions v world champion boxer Josh Warrington

    Head-to-head

    • Southampton ended a seven-match losing streak at Cardiff on their most recent visit, a 3-0 Premier League victory in 2013.
    • Cardiff have only lost four of their 20 home league matches against Saints overall (W12, D4).
    Cardiff City

    • Cardiff have won three of their past four Premier League home games, matching their tally of wins from the previous 18 top-flight home matches.
    • They could win three consecutive top-flight home fixtures within a single season for the first time since 1961.
    • Cardiff have not kept a clean sheet in their last 12 top-flight games.
    • All three of their Premier League wins this campaign came after conceding the opening goal.
    • Only Arsenal (12) have won more points from a losing position than the Bluebirds' nine this season.
    • Cardiff and Arsenal are the only clubs not to have led a Premier League fixture at half time in 2018-19.
    Southampton

    • Saints are winless in their last 13 league and cup games, drawing seven and losing six. It's their worst run since 1998.
    • They have won only four of their last 40 Premier League fixtures (D17, L19), with three of those triumphs coming away.
    • Ralph Hasenhuttl will become the first Austrian to take charge of a Premier League game.
    • Hasenhuttl won 120 Bundesliga points during his two seasons in charge of RB Leipzig (2016-2018) - only Bayern Munich fared better in this period.
    • None of Saints' last seven permanent managers have won their first game in charge.
    • Paul Sturrock was the last Southampton boss to begin with a win, overseeing a 2-0 victory against Liverpool in March 2004.

OK guys - just had a look at the odds for this one and Southampton are actually favourites to win this. <doh>

Can't be 'aving that!!! So it's 20 quid on City to win @21/10. It worked against Wolves last week when they were favourites, so why not again. <ok>

Might have a look at the scorers when I see the team - there's got to be some goals about today.

Must say I had a look at them just now when I placed the bet on City and Zohore is favourite @ 9/4 to get one................<whistle> <laugh>

Phone now working, yay. Seen team so gone for scorers. 8 quid apiece on Murph @ 4/1 and Cammy @ 13/2. That's 36 quid invested _ let's see what comes back......if anything.

Looking a bit windy there today. Good first half from the lads. Referee a bit suspect on a few decisions, Murphy should have had us 1-0 ahead and a good first half for the returning Mendes-Laing. Hopefully a 2nd half with some of our chances converted to goals.

Most results going for us. Just need Arsenal and Brighton to get a goal each and it would be the icing on the cake.....

…….if we can hold on for a win.

At the start of the season I talked about judging this team near the half way mark. 14 points from 16 games. If we can get close to 18 or 19 at half way...well...job half done :) I think NW is showing he has what it takes to be a Poem manager :)

We do make it hard for ourselves - my nerves were shot that last 20 minutes. Should have gone in half time 2 or 3 goals up. Both Murphy and Mendez seem to have blown themselves out and didn't pose anything like the threat after the break that they did before.

Second half it was backs to the wall stuff. How good was Arter today at snuffing them out in midfield - he was everywhere and just magnificent giving everything for the cause.

That was a real tussle second half if truth be known, and whilst I won't say we were lucky in any way, we really had to earn those 3 points today - and we did. Blood and guts doesn't come close and more of the same will see us safe never mind what the purists say.

Paterson is a one man army up front. I hope he can last it out battling like that. We seriously need a striker because if he gets crocked we'll be up **** creek with no real alternative. Not sure what sort of money we should spend on one (or even 2), but after the rest of the team's performance today, it's a proven goalscorer we lack - the rest looked really up for it
