It's been said many times, but I really like the way the club are going about things right now in terms of recruitment.
I'm now interested in who we sign to to load the bullets, as this guy seems able to pull the trigger. He probably needs similar service to Miller, which wasn't provided last season. I can't see a place for Earnie if we keep Miller with this guy, esspecially as we have Mason.
I dont know what to make of Malky's transfer policy this season ???????????.............................................................................. We havent signed a single scotsman yet this year !!!!
Towards the end of the video he scores a couple with his right foot and a brilliant header. Miller scored 11 goals last season, Velinkoja scored 21. I know who I'd rather see playing.
exile your being harsh on miller...... very little service, played with back to goal and had very few chances, lost confidence towards tail end of the season but we didnt play to his strengths, if we played 4-4-2 with a quality striker next to him up front with mason wide right then i've no doubt he would have got 20-25 goals....... i'll be honest and say i've no idea how this guy will do, the slovenian league is a little different to the championship....
I think he'd get that number with a couple of genuine wingers, 451 or 433. I agree 100% that we didn't load the gun often enough for him.
yea, too often he was isolated up front in 4-5-1 with basically crap slow wingers and no-one breaking from midfield. he's got to play in a 4-4-2 with a striker to play him in, or with mids who get forwards......
We didn't make as many chances as we should have, but miller did miss a huge amount of chances in his dry spell. If he continues at last years conversion rate we'd need to sign modric, xavi and silva to supply enough bullets for 25 to go in.
I think Miller spent a lot of time coming deep just to be in the game at all. That said, as Stevoldinho says, he did miss a considerable number of chances. I'm glad to see we're casting the net far and wide.
I never expected Miller to score all that many goals. The one got high totals in was the SPL... hardly the toughest league in the world. Stop slagging Miller of for not scoring 25+ (he's just not that player) and focus on his work rate and what else he brings to the team. I thought some of his build up play was brilliant and he was extremely good at hitting the post.... This young lad looks good (killer left foot) and will easily replace Miller but only if he makes the transition to English football quickly. And Exile - 21 goals in the Slovakian League hardly compares to 11 in the Championship...
I have defended miller many times based on his work rate and movement. But a sober look back at last season says many points and the cup were lost by his failure to convert chances. I take the point that similar to Suarez his number of 'post hits' could suggest with a bit of luck he could easily exceed last years pretty uninspiring total. That said I like him as a player and I hope he's in our squad next season. Imo His energy and intelligence will be very effective for us if he hasnt already had to run his legs to stumps playing 90mins twice a week every week. To be fair to him he was normally pretty central in most of the better attacking moves we put together and until the end when he looked very tired I always felt we had a better chance of a good result with him in side rather than out of it. I'm hoping for big things from joe this season, I think with a bit more attacking intent in our side he has the potential to be one of the stars of the division. I do hope he gets the chance through the middle his form last season deserves though and doesn't end up shoved out wide to accommodate others.
I don't think anyone is slagging him out Sheep and everyone acknowledges his work rate, but the fact remains, and for whatever reason, he didn't get many goals last term. If our main striker isn't scoring, something has to be done whether it be a different approach to supporting him, or if necessary, replacing him.
I wasn't having a go at Miller, I just think Velinkoja will add strength and another option up front. I admit I don't think the Slovinian league will be the same as the Championship, but this guy is an international as well, and he came out of nowhere to score a brilliant goal against England. If Miller had converted all of his chances last season I would think better of him. Every footballer hits the woodwork sometimes, but he wasted way too many opportunities for my liking. We still need a couple of fast wingers to put the ball in to the box for our strikers to have the shots on goal, but we also need strength in midfield and defence as well. The squad was too lightweight last season.
