Yes remember the match well, also have a funny story about the match. We were 3 - 0 up with a few minutes to go. So we decided to leave early and get down the pub for a couple of pints. On the way down the road a bloke came running towards us and stopped and asked the score in an obvious London accent as he had only just got to Cardiff. '3 - 0 to us mate' he didnt seem happy and asked if he wanted a pint with us. Which was unheard of in those days as our matches with Chelsea involved a blood bath between the fans at some point. He walked to the pub with us and the good old vidiprinter was on the Tele. Up came the score 3 - 3. To this day i can still picture his face when he realised Chelsea had scored 3 goals which he could have seen. But against his better judgement chose a pint of Brains SA instead. He was a decent guy and we were gutted and so was he, an odd feeling all round.
 
Apologies if I'm considered prudish but is it right to be glorifying pitched football battles of 30 odd years ago. I'm as guilty as most for joining in such things back then but times have changed and if similar incidents occur now with the numbers apparently involved in the one above, it would be all over not just national but world press and those involved would be vilified to the nth degree with mass arrests, court cases, banning orders like confetti, jail terms, media hysteria, questions in Parliament, tv debates and everything else that goes with it.

What happened then happened, many got kicks from it, many suffered serious injuries from it and as history it can't be changed but lets look at the much more positive family friendly game we have now where incidents of mass violence are very rare and non-existent at the vast majority of games in this country. Surely it is better to look forward positively rather than rake up this sort of thing?

In saying that Ronny's story is amusing and paints a better side of the night.
 
im not sure he's looking at glorifying it bfb just fishing for memories off people who may have been there that day>.....I wasn't there that day 2young but the stories do interest me and some others also no doubt.......im not saying it should start up again but im afraid it will always be there in some capacity.........I also don't wanna sound like ive had my fun but now you cant have yours, if it wasn't for the cameras these days then I wouldn't see no problem in the youth having a spat on a regular basis.......in a way its like the generations before us>>>>rock and roll came about and shocked the parents but the kids needed it>>>them kids turned into parent who didn't want theyre little angels listening 2 filth like the sex pistols..........the little angles now parents then didn't like theyre kids being off thy faces on ecstasy tablets listening 2 music without lyrics and on and on it goes>>>>>>>>>where does it stop?????.................it doesn't <ok>

fk me when it comes 2 morals which club in the English football system is known for allowing its players 2celebrate goals with a gesture which relates 2 football violence? <ok>

I was there that day a fresh faced 18 year old it's the worst trouble I've seen in nearly 40 years of watching Cardiff. I was glad I had my trainers on because we got run most of the way back to the train station. If you talk to people who said they were there the crowd should have been about 30,000 Hahaha.

On a par with the error by that ref at Birmingham this season.
I don't really recall any crowd bother. Stood in the Bob Bank, plenty of Chelsea everywhere but compared to the mental scenes at the 1979 and 1980 matches, it was a picnic. I missed the 1977 game which I believe was the worst of the lot.
 
Sayer77, if memory serves me right the crowd was no more than 8 or 9,000. Remember getting on the Rhymney train later that afternoon, after the pub visit and the Chelsea train was in a siding just outside of Queen street and it hardly had a window left in it, brutal times and like someone said earlier that side of the game maybe better left in what was a brutal time, not just in football, but life in general. The 80's were a pretty brutal decade, but did enjoy certain aspects such as the music, always enjoyed my football and a few other things
 
Yes certainly enjoyed the 80s and going away on the train in those days was a leap of faith. Top decade for music post punk, indie labels and everyone doing it for themselves in Thatcher's Britain. Nostalgia is not what it was.
