My other half's car (an 18 month old Toyota Yaris) has developed a problem with the paintwork on both sides above the front grill.

All the other paintwork is fine.

Please look at the pics and see if you can identify what has caused it - it looks to me (based only on none professional guesswork) as though they were originally sprayed separately to the rest of the car and (maybe) had exposure to grease or petrol before being coated.

Any knowledgeable thoughts will be welcomed.

Many thanks in advance.

it has oxidised mate, come into contact with a strong chemical, a dab of light polishing compound on a cloth should cure it. failing that by going by the picture it could only be lacquer flake which is covered by warranty ,unless it has been painted aftermarket with cheap materials, ps the rust spot on the bonnet needs urgent treatment a dab of rust cure followed by a dab of lacquer building up slowly to the same level as original paint

How is an 18 month old car getting rusty would be a question. Maybe a chip that's been left?

Cheers all.

I've passed the info on and (hopefully) she'll act on it - The Toyota dealer she bought it from is one of her accounts at the bank so, hopefully, it will be sorted without too many problems.
