Hi all Gills fans. Hope you are keeping well. Now that he has skippered the team in the past two matches, I just wanted to know your thoughts on Keds as captain. He was a good leader for us Dons and of course gave us a moment to remember when he scored the winning penalty to put us in the League. Do you he should be given the armband in the future?
 
Basing things only on game by game and after Rotherham on Tuesday, when only Weston and Keds disappointed me. I would probably say NO and he would be lucky to make the side on Saturday. However, need to balance things and say that Keds has been a great workhorse in previous games.

If it was my team though we have a problem. Because I would play 442 with Tomlin left wing and Keds and Kuffour up front. So that would mean that Keds has either to score goals other than just the good amount by penalties or he has to supply Kuffour in the same way Bayo supplied Cody. At the moment I have worries on both those fronts.

The trouble is if we were to play the way I want us too. Who would replace Keds up front and there is the problem. I wonder if Keds is any good at Left back!!! Probably not.

Not for me, kedwell as a player, without those penalty's he wouldn't offer as much as some think...which is not hard to see !
sometimes you can just tell straight away if someone is cut out to be captain, and i'm more than certain that he isn't the man to wear the armband for gillingham fc, yes he runs around for the cause and battles, but is that leading by example...maybe ?, all thats needed...NO !.
i even question the fact of him starting/finishing games, just doesn't seem any better than ex gill gary mulligan, and that doubt of...is he improving us or holding us back sets in ?
if not for the fact, he is apparently gillingham fc...through & through, would he of even been on our radar...doubt it !

haven't heard any reports, that he has been the inspiration & voice thats very much needed out on the field for those around him in these two games as captain...far from it !!!

give danny spiller, charlie lee, jack payne or simon king the leadership to take us forward and bring some fire back in our bellies & fight for the cause at the gills !!! <applause>

Kedwell to me at the moment is a waste of space,and I can't believe we paid so much money for a non-scoring centre forward.We could get a decent mid fielder to do all the running around he does with no end product.
 
Cannot disagree with the sentiments so far. Kedwell has done nothing to justify the fee paid for him in the summer and talks of captaincy are not right. The jump to full time professional football may have been one step to far for the bloke.
 
Seriously guys? It's his first season at this level, and he's scored 11 goals.

We all raved about Akinfenwa last season...who I'm pretty sure scored less.
 
Akinfenwa probably did score less,but boy,did he make up for it in assists. Cody has done nothing this season without someone like Akinfenwa to play with. I afraid to say, Kedwell makes very few chances for others. I grant you,this may be the way he's told to play,i.e. deeper than Kuffour or Tomlin, but it may be the way he likes to play. Before we signed him,Wimbledon fans were applauding his work rate, but I'm starting to think that the amount of running all over the pitch he does, doesn't produce much for our front two,but does give an outlet to the defence. I think Hess needs to redefine Keds role in the side,because its not doing him or the team much good at the moment.
 
I think the problem with Keds this season is the formations he has been asked to play in. He spent the first 5/6 games up top by himself, we noticed his work rate and his commitment because he physically had to lead the line for the full 90.

Then, we seemingly go from that, to playing him in what is effectively a front three (along with Kuffour and any from Nouble/Rooney/Tomlin).

At Wimbledon, correct me if I'm wrong, he played primarily in a 4-4-2 with an out and out striker alongside him. This worked last season for Cody and Bayo.
 
Kedwell is a great striker, he scores a few and his work rate helps others to get goals, he has the same role as Bayo had last season, the only reasons why we don't have as many goals is we don't have another striker like we had in Jackson or Cody McDonald.

Disagree, Tomlin is having to work for the ball himself, that's when he is not assisting Kuffour. Tomlin and Kuffour are not receiving the same service as Cody. We were warned by gas fans that we need to keep an eye on Kuffour because when things don't go his way, there can be some negativity. If he does not get the supply like Cody had then I can see his head dropping or wanting someone to blame. I was watching him closely on Tuesday and I just saw a few hints of that. I can remember when Bayo went off for one game, Cody was completely lost.

Keds needs to start filling in that same role or putting the ball in the back of the net and let the midfield do there job.

Yeah I think the one who is on his form is defiantly Tomlin, but I would not drop Keds, I may drop Kuffour as he is not working at his best, however I think that Kuffour will pick up his game same as Keds.
 
As I have only been to two matches at Priestfield this season, I can't really comment on who has/hasn't been the best striker, but don't forget that Keds has just made the change from non-league football to league football. I am sure he will get better. People just need to get behind him more to give him confidence. His performances may then improve.

Keds has probably had more support than any other player from the fans. Mainly because he is a local lad making the move from Rainham End supporter to player/captain. However, when it comes to results every player will be questioned eventually no matter their loyalty in the same way Hessy is being questioned, if things continue to decline. The trouble was even after Tuesday's improved performance, Keds was one of the lessor performers within the fans expectation of his role on the field.
 
The problems Keds has? Two-fold.

Firstly, the role he played at the start of the season in the absence of any other striking options. He played a lone role for the first 6/7 games and worked his socks off. The penalties, you may say, were his reward. But League Two strikers cannot survive on graft alone, they need to have another string to their bow. That's why Keds has always, in my opinion, needed a strike partner alongside him.

Secondly, distinct lack of service? Who in our midfield has it in their locker to constantly provide for our strikers? Think how many goals recently Kuffour and Tomlin have fashioned for themselves. Our set piece ability is cringeworthy sometimes, a distinct lack of ideas and extremely frustrating. I'm not for one minute comparing Kedwell to him but look at the likes of Alan Shearer for example. Not blessed with pace, but always had the knack of being in the right place at the right time, and generally being given the right type of service from wide for him to attack.
 
Not been impressed with Kedwell recently hope he sorts his form out. Does not look confident in front of goal and seems to be unfit.
