I agree. If he really wanted to stay and play for his club then he could have priced himself out of a move. I dont hold his leaving against him but dont claim he "never wanted to leave"
Only in the same way Shearer never wanted to leave, but really had a clause in his contract stipulating he'd be the highest paid player at the club. That clause wouldn't really exist if we hold him by the same standard. Humans are swayed by money, even back to Gazza and the like. The suggestion he would have stayed on if he'd got the same wages isn't bad in fairness. We looked like we were walking into disaster and Liverpool were spunking money everywhere and on the up. Can anyone name me someone who 'never wanted to leave' and stayed despite more lucrative offers elsewhere?
