Not about being stupid is it? It's about paying what the going rate is. If Dortmund see Luiz going for 40-50 million then there not likely to let Hummells, a superior defender go for a third of that are they? Torres was a world class striker moving between rivals mid season. That's why he cost 50 million. The fact he's failed to live up to the tag is merely hindsight. And if we want to talk about stupid decisions, how about letting Pogba go for nothing and playing Cleverley instead.
All due respect, but Dortmund are no Southampton, give them a little more credit than that That was funny though, all those Saints fans saying, "We dont need to sell. £40m please!" numpties. Almost as good as HIAG and his "Bale is not for sale" rants
Plus fans saying they wont sell for less than x amount means jack ****. Fans have nothing to do with value or transfers of players. The Dortmund manager making a joke out of a reported 16 million fee carries a bit more weight somehow!
Bu that's how the system works, if you want someone as an improvement to your "team" you offer them bigger wages to leave. Same principal apples to any business. Only difference in football is a transfer fee has to be agreed. But 45 mill? way too expensive
Transfer fee is dictated by 3 things really: How good the player is How old the player is And how long the player has left on his existing contract Given that he is an excellent player, only 25 and is contracted till 2017, Dortmund would be mad to let him go for anything less than £30-35m.
I get what you are saying, obviously your opinion is based on the two high profile cases of Gotze and Lewandowski, where Dortmund lost two of their best players. But lets examine what actually happened, the Gotze deal was done and dusted before Klopp knew anything about it, he had a release clause and agreed a deal with Bayern, Gotze wanted to go to Bayern and the club had no option because the clause was triggered and a deal was agreed, I think he showed a lot of disrespect to Klopp with the way he went about that. But it was down to the player, not the manager or the board. Lewandowski, left for free, he wanted to go to Bayern a lot sooner, but Dortmund refused the money so they could keep him for one more season, is that the act of a club who needs the money? Needs to sell? Again, there was nothing they could do in the situation, Lewandowski would not sign a new contract because he wanted to go to Bayern. Dortmund would not have sold either player for love nor money because they were near irreplaceable. They will sell players like Kagawa when they are getting tremendous return on investment and have better replacements lined up, they will sell when its good business, but they are now in a position, thanks to Klopps incredible management and transfer dealings, that they can actually go out and spend big if they want to, and they dont have to sell anyone. They have a profitable business model, which is more than can be said of 99% of wasters in the game today, ie, nearly every big spending club in Europe, and they can keep their best players comfortably, provided they want to stay at the club, and in the case of Hummels I dont doubt that he does. Dortmund now have 3 major assets left, Hummels, Gundogan and Reus, and they will be going nowhere any time soon as long as they under contract. They have spent a fair amount on Immobile this window, as a possible replacement for Lewa, he was top scorer in Serie A last year but had a poor world cup. Klopp is a genius and he does not get a lot wrong so Immobile has to be given a chance to prove Klopp right, he has earned that.
That was just the most unbelievable stupid decsion (probably in the modern era) - who was it that made such a bad judgement call?
Andy Carroll has averaged a miserable 1 goal in 4 games since leaving Liverpool. Torres scores less than 1 goal in 5 games- for a much better team. I would say Andy Carroll is superior to Torres- and we paid less for him than we sold Torres for... and don't forget the other half of Torres's replacement... Suarez. Andy Carroll is a world class genius compared to Fernando Torres!
he is not first manager to say that then end up selling him, and at times at same price to dismiss something happening in the background is as stupid as believing it tbh so let us set and wait while things are developing
Also the buying club, the selling club, and how much the player wants a move. Luiz is a prime example of that - he didn't seem to have any great desire to leave Chelsea, which jacked the price up when compared to better defenders who were angling for moves. As for Hummels, I don't think anyone believed the £16m fee being bandied around, which was probably just invented by some journo as an obvious lie to try and get the story more attention. The fact it was a Spanish journo makes it suspicious right from the off - maybe he was a Barca fan and wanted to try and convince them to make a counter offer. Still think there is a decent chance of us signing him, particularly given the ridiculously low odds quoted by some bookies on the deal. But that will ultimately depend on whether Hummels wants a move, how much Dortmund expect to get, and how close Utd are willing to get to that figure, which will be a hell of a lot higher than the £16m.
Pogba. Last time I checked, it was illegal for force someone to sign a contract if they wouldn't agree to the terms.
Exactly my point. You guys will pay him a hell of a lot more than Dortmund, so right away that makes the offer attractive for Hummels himself. But you have to convince Dortmund its the right move to sell him, and that will take around £30m + imo.
Is this goals per game or goals per appearance, i only ask because 5 mins does not constitute a game in my opinion
We had no choice, he ran his contract out, unless you think a club should bow to a youth team players demands to be played in the first team
Surely you could see the potential? The kid was always going be pure quality. But who let him go? Fergie? Surely all you had to do was offer him a new contract with some good negotiations and decent wage increase and he would have stayed? Not sure exactly when you let him go (about 3 years ago??) but he's a £40mil+ player now
Like I said above - some good negotations and a much better contract and he'd probably still be yours.
