I get the feeling that we're going to do better against the top four teams this season, that has always been our downfall in recent seasons.
Well some of our young players could push on this season, Ozil could get 20 assists, Giroud could score 30 goals in all comps. but... one world class player doesn't take us from battling for 4th to title challengers. TBH, threads like this make us look a bit deluded to other fans. I'm glad most people here are being realistic.
We won't challenge, not this season. We still need additional players. I'm hoping we can win a cup this season though, FA cup or a small trophy.
One of those threads that shouldn't see the light of day until atleast mid-Jan when we can properly assess the team progress. But it's quite clear we have a very thin squad wise to challenge. You can't expect a team to compete in 4 different trophies and not get injuries or loss of form. Also what people are not factoring is the Ozil effect, the positives and negatives of it. The positives will be us being more attacking, make more opportunities and retain possession better. But the negatives could be we could go back to being too gung ho, leaving great big gaps and losing our organisational structure. Last season and the start of the season, Wenger was working with less so was employing a more conservative, sit back style different to the days of 07/08. We can't afford to go back to those less disciplined days, we simply haven't got the quality to blast teams out of the water if we go down. If we keep our discipline and current style of play going, then we will be up there in Jan.
I don't know, we seem to be allowed endless threads on why we can't challenge, I don't see why we shouldn't have one suggesting the possibility that we can. The next 4 or 5 games are vital. If we can start getting players back from injury and build a little belief then we will be in great shape.
Yes. But when you as Liverpool fan talk about other clubs whether that be positively or negatively your club is always going to be dragged into a discussion.
Changing my answer to yes, largely because everyone looks very average this year. Chelsea lost to Everton, ManUre had to cheat their way past Palace, Liverpool are hamstrung by a poor manager, Spurs still need to gel, and Citeh look very average and have no defenders. We have 11 fit first teamers, yet somehow keep winning. As long as we get some players back soon, we might be able to mount a chance.
No, i'm saying it's because the league looks weak, not because we look good. Even someone like Everton could count themselves in with a chance.
I think the title will be a closer fought thing this season but ultimately I see Chelsea winning it. I wouldn't be surprised to see us come a close 2nd or 3rd though, dependent on injuries. I do however, feel more optimistic and think this team has the ability to end our trophy draught by picking up the FA or Carling cup.
I remember last season we had a good away performance at West Ham winning 3-1 in a hard fought victory, and everyone was saying yes yes yes we can challenge....So again, everybody needs to take a chill pill before getting over-excited, let's not start turning into Liverpool and Spurs fans thinking we're bound for glory based on a few good results.
We've done well and players are starting to put their hands up and perform when it matters most. It counts for nothing at this stage of the season though, we have to keep up this good work for another 8 months.
Me personally I think we will challenge for the league. From January this year we have been by far one of the best teams in the league all we have to do really is just put 10% more of our chances in. With Ozil I think himself will add about 30% more chances for the players around him. Walcott hopefully won't miss all the chances he had today. Last season who would of thought Aaron would be the player he is now. We have made steady progress and are turning into a hard team to beat no we are not Perfect and I have not said we will win the league but by damn on our day I will not bet against us we will get better our team will grow stronger. Yes other teams will score against us but this is football nobody has a perfect game someone has to make a mistakes and someone will put the ball in the net that's why it's so important that we put teams to bed. That what I think believe we are a very good side look at all the players that we have missing. ps also we have a mighty fine manager who will I hope will start taking off the handbrakes.
No , we have some quality in the squad to begin a title campaign but not enough to maintain it , and in not enough depth . The sad thing is , it would not have cost much more to be in a position to seriously challenge , with Manure being weakened , Chelsea looking unbalanced. I think we HAD a real chance , but i dont see it going the distance. Our best chance it to try achieve some silver this year , i can certainly see that happening , if we dont f@ck it up against minnows again .
i think realistically that if we get players back from injury asap we can hope to be in top 3 by January. then we need to add the other big signings we missed this summer. then with new signings and full fit squad we should be able to push on. i know other teams will add in January so we need to make sure we dont f@ck up the transfers like we did this summer and get them in early. we still need to add another striker. if Real go for Suarez then we go for Benzema, or we go for Suarez, either way depletes Liverpools squad. ManUre wont be adding Ronaldo as he has signed new contract, so maybe Rooney may be tempted to join us. Chelsea seem intent on buying very midfielder available - maybe Wenger will surprise everyone and go for Torres !! you read it here first lol
