As ambitious as he might be, he would be unwise to go to Man U at this point. It’s never been more obvious which teams are teams (Spurs, Leicester, Arsenal, Watford) and which are collections of players (Man U, Liverpool). It takes a couple of years to go from the latter to the former, and it takes belief in the manager and a willingness to transform the club according to his vision. Would Pochettino get that at Man U? It’s very doubtful, I think. Meanwhile, someone else would reap the benefits of his work here. A move away from Spurs before another couple of years elapse would mark Pochettino as a particularly fickle coach, which would hurt his long term career prospects, given he left Saints relatively soon. The justification there was that they sacked Cortese, who apparently was a good friend and ally. So I would be surprised (if not shocked) to see Pochettino leave in the next year or two, at least. I think he needs to win something here first.

The new stadium opening may be a bigger factor than most think for players (and coach) evaluating their future. It’s not just fans who are hoping for an ideal world, where Spurs are in the CL and suddenly a significantly bigger and better club. Who knows what the chances are of that happening? But everything has been planned to make the chances of it happening as good as possible, and things are certainly heading in the right direction at this point.

Poch won't go to United. This is nonsense. He left Southampton partly because he knew his best players were being allowed to leave. Simply not the case here anymore. He is building a squad for the future, and he is being backed well. As long as he gets his transfer wishes this window, he has no reason to consider leaving. Why would he?

However, I can see why Manchester United might try to unsettle him. With Poch party responsible for 10 out of 18 England debutants, we are potentially looking like the main contributors to the national squad, in the same way that Manchester United were when they were consistently on top. This is the old status quo that they don't want to see change. We could become the new darlings of English football. We've already seen the beginnings of it in the way the media now disproportionately fawn over Deli Alli and Harry Kane.

It appears we've slipped into a gap left by Man United in their quest to become the new galacticos of the PL.

What better way to squash that than taking Poch? Or Harry? Or Alli? Or Lloris? Unfortunately, for them, there are too many significant individuals, plus they all wanna stay as they are buying into a unity at Spurs. Good times.

    Spot on lockstock.

First sign of this is the umpteen threads you get on forums such as this by rival fans..trying to disect the whole club....and wishfully dreaming of all our players and the gaffer leaving.

    Bless.

Lets actually see if our players and manager wanna stay if teams like Utd come calling.

Previous experience would suggest they would want to leave.

I'd love for Poch, Kane, Lloris and Alli to buck the trend though.

Previous experience is not a guide because this young manager and young squad have every reason to think they can make it with Spurs. They are backing their own ability to make the CL and to make a bid for the title in the next season or two. This is not the same as a team looking at 8th or 5th or even maybe scraping a 4th spot.
Remember they have outplayed City they have outplayed Arsenal and they were a little unlucky against United on the first day of the season. They have moved on a long way since then. We have not looked second best against anyone in this league if it carries on like this United players might be looking to join Spurs.

Yeah, I don't think it makes any sense for United to go for Pochettino, other than to potentially derail our progress(which won't be that high on their agenda).

A few journos discussed it on Sunday Supplement and seemed to think it would be a good move for United. I just don't see it. If Pochettino struggles in the first few months then they're back to where they were with Moyes with questions being raised over whether they're suited to managing such a big club. They're a huge brand and ultimately need to get themselves back challenging at the top of the table as soon as possible so they need someone with the trophy winning pedigree they want to return to.

I'd have thought Blanc should be top of their list. He's shown he can meet expectations with a big budget, sets up his sides to play good football, is fairly young and has played for and captained United in the past. What more could United want?

Obviously I'm hoping they go for Giggs after Van Gaal goes. It's got disaster written all over it.

  7. You'd have thought that Mark Hughes is putting forward a creditable case for managing United, particularly as he knows the set-up.

Weakening potential rivals has always been high on their agenda. After all, how many "Kane to Man Utd" rumours have the papers been happy to circulate this season?

  9. Kane coming in early and saying he's intent on staying at Spurs will be a big help to the club.

They know he's the next England star. I'm sure they'd be after him regardless of who he played for.

I doubt they'd shoot themselves in the foot by not signing the best suited manager just to try and derail our progress.

I was thinking along those lines about MP. I mean, this wouldn't be a less than subtle Real type tap up via the press would it?
Nah, surely a club like Utd wouldn't sink so low!

If we have a couple of consistently good seasons of managing to beat Man United and Liverpool to the top four, we'll see a shift. It's a big ask, but the way things are going now, who knows?

I think this is a better post than mine. Let’s remember it’s been nine years since a bigger club was able to buy a player we wanted.. With ENIC’s stated aim being to sell the club after building a new stadium, and with there being no reason to doubt ENIC will do exactly what they say they will do, letting any of its young stars go before the stadium opens would be madness for them and just ain’t gonna happen if ENIC has any say in it, and they do, since everyone’s signed through 2017 (I think). You sell the sizzle, not the steak, and the sizzle is home grown young English stars in an English dominated, youth obsessed media market. So the next twist is Pochettino to Man U. That story exists because it’s a pretty obvious rumor to create, and creating rumors fills half the sports pages. As a side note, Pochettino to Man U would be a mistake for Man U., a mistake for Pochettino, and, frankly, probably not that big a deal to Spurs. The right manager can and has picked up exactly where Pochettino left off. Koeman did better, actually, with a team that had lost most of its top players, which won’t happen at Spurs.. Whether anyone at Man U is involved in tapping up I couldn’t tell you. It doesn’t matter. The team will stay together through the first year with the new stadium, and in all likelihood through the sale of the club by ENIC.
