Correct Ginge but it's still a law! It's the FA's guideline on how referees & linesmen should make their decisions and it states there in black & white that there should be no doubt about the decision.
Yes - it goes on to say "When a goal has been scored but the ball appears still to be in play, the assistant referee must first raise his flag to attract the refereeâs attention then continue with the normal goal procedure of running quickly 25-30 metres along the touch line towards the halfway line. On occasions when the whole of the ball does not cross the goal line and play continues as normal because a goal has not been scored, the referee must make eye contact with the assistant referee and if necessary give a discreet hand signal." What we are talking about is distinguishing these last two situations - not the one where there is no doubt. This is the guidance to referees in the laws and it gives no guidance at all on how they are to make a close call. However, the fact that the guidance allows for the second situation proves that goals can be scored when there is doubt!
By the way - I actually think it would be better if Refs were told only to give any decision that stopped the match if they were sure beyond reasonable doubt as it really annoys me when refs make up things that have not happened. I'm merely pointing out that the laws don't say this currently
What's the point of this thread? Everyone knows the ball didn't cross the line. As for ITV, they are obviously going to say things to cause controversy and stir things up to get people to switch to their channel, it's called being a crap commentator, it's not exactly slander
i remember townsend getting dogs abuse from chelsea in a game against aston villa - worst thing was the abuse was hurled during a minutes silence
You remember that do you? Got the year? The reason for the mins silence? Thought not.Tosser.Piss off back to your scouse scum board.
http://www.google.ie/url?sa=t&rct=j...sg=AFQjCNHXr-OutPsUYpPf86fnQgX7Op1b5A&cad=rja YOU PROBABLY CANT REMEMBER AS IT WAS BEFORE ABRAMOVICH ARRIVED = IF YOU ARE GOING TO CALL ME A TOSSER YOU SHOULD CHECK THAT WHAT I SAID WAS TRUE FIRST
Surprised that such a diehard fan who remembers with incredible accuracy details from matches 30 years ago can't remember something like this.
Cos it didn't happen. We did give Andy some abuse. Funnily enough I went to rangers boro in a Cup game after Ireland had failed to qualify for Euro 96 and gave him loads of verbal from the Ellerslie!
Well, the game was played Saturday, 22nd January 1994 Can anyone work out what the minute's silence would have been for?
So you think that a guideline that tells the assistant what do to IF there is no doubt and then goes on to say what he does in another circumstance when a goal is scored (ie where there must be a doubt) proves that the laws say that there must be no doubt. And you think I talk bollocks..... More seriously - I was trying to have a reasonable discussion about the laws and was not making any anti-Chelsea point - why do you have to accuse me of talking bollocks?
Give it a rest ffs. The guideline is a part of the FA law book and stated in law six. You can go round & round in circles all you like trying to convince yourself that your original statement of - Nowhere in the laws of the game does it say that the ref has to be sure about anything is anything other than utter shyte but even you know what a plank you made yourself look by stating it!
I am referring to your club as a whole. But I see no attempt to say I'm wrong and that you believe Suarez made racially abusive comments and actually condemn him - just throwing out petty insults, as to be expected.
