We're on to something, we're meet at the pub in 10 to discuss this mythical finding of ours. Bulmers Pear please
I agree with you re eye of the beholder etc I just think the paintings aforementioned are rubbish Re the cars some of it comes down to hand made and mass production etc and detailing whats beautiful about half a cow in liquid? be much better with salad and between a bun no?
Nothing beautiful about it. That's conceptual art though. You're talking at cross-purposes here. Art doesn't have to be beautiful, merely capable of being interesting and starting debate. It is supposed to be the inner parts of human experience wrought into reality. There are no rules to say it must be eye-catching or relevant.
I wouldnt imagine the guy who bought it even likes it, he probably just bought it because he can. Who else can boast that they have a painting worth that?
I can. Not only that, I'm delighted that someone places such high worth on these things. It's still £6 million cheaper than Cristian Ronaldo, which should be embarrassing to all civilised peoples. It's a faintly ridiculous price, I'll grant you that, but in a world that places such high value on passing fads, gadgetry and cheapening celebrity, this feels like a step in a different sort of direction, a rebalancing of values and recognition of the lasting (artistic) merit of such works. Some things actually deserve to be expensive. True.
He is, Jip will be on here in a bit with Please Not Poll and then it'll really descend into the ****...
Yeah it totally is. Being a massive boaby-guzzler and enjoying any form of art go well together. http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/134392-Best-Cover-Version-Ever http://www.not606.com/showthread.php/114892-War-Horse-Versus-Iron-Lady
We were speaking of 'worth' in the monetary sense though. Hence my points In terms of interesting and starting debate some of the best art I have seen is in countries like Ireland with the whole wall paintings etc. Same in India, Kashmir etc Even in newspaper cartoons in pakistan etc Not saying I agree with it or its meassages etc, but it fulfills all the criteria you listed and is free or the price of a newspaper One of my friends wives is 'arty' and the thing I have learnt is that art is like anything else today. not what but who you know
Surrealism and Dadaism certainly makes you think and question realities and existence and perceptions. A bunch of flowers or a submarine made out of tyres certainly ****in doesn't. Bollocks.
Who knows what kind of pish you'd spend your money on if you were one of the mega-rich. The price doesn't actually reflect the value of the painting, it only reflects the price that some daft rich ****er places on it.
Difference is Im quite happy with my sexuality and am fine with being gay. You need to come out because it is obviously tearing you to pieces.
Worth every penny if you can sell it to some other mug for a couple of million more. Splashy paint - Jackson Pollock's go for millions but I get nothing when I've spilled paint on the floor Toilet with a signature on it - Dadaism goes for millions but I get nothing when my kid scribbles on ours with crayon Spunk stained bed shets - Tracy Emin's goes for millions but I get nothing for the smears of man-goo I leave behind
