As a footballer you always want to play at the highest level possible, which is why many players are contempt to sitting on the bench for a premier league team for 30 games a season and coming on in the other 8. It's the same reason why the likes of Phil Bardsley plays for the Scottish national team. Stewart falls under the same category, in fact he has a bigger claim to being Scottish than Bardsley. If he wants to play at the highest possible level then he's going to choose to play for Scotland. He'll get played and tried at international level which could lead in playing for a bigger club in the future. If we're all honest he's never in a million years going to get an England cap and he'll know that as well. It's just common sense really and I don't see why people make such a big deal out of it.

Nuri Sahin is a German of Turkish descent who chose to play for Turkey currently and is a similar age and standard to him so this probably makes a lot of bad feeling for Ozil

If Stewart does go for Scotland Levein will destroy him. Levein is a **** manager.

Stewart should hang around for at least 2 years and you never know if he achieves his potential he may be in with a chance of the England team

Stewart should hang on like Proud Fox says. Would be sad to see him become a great player destined to miss out because he made a bad choice too early, he must be close to England u21's now anyway, they will be monitoring him if Barmby hasn't had a word already himself.

I can tell you if Cameron was raised and playing up here, and decided to play for England you would have a similar situation as with Ozil, he would be vilified. I somehow think the other way round, us English would not have the same feeling resentment.

The best thing for Germany to do in order to avoid confusion is just invade Poland if they've got any decent players coming through..

EDIT: just scrolled back and noticed almost the same sly joke had already being used..!!

It's common sense to play for a foreign country?
