Dont be fooled by Piskie - that was never HH's argument. Stoke are over achieving - they got into Europe with a fraction of the money that say Liverpool have. The point is that money comparisons to City do NOT mean we cant win the league, and the suggestion of bringing in a couple of physical (but still skillfull) players into our team is a good one. We've lost a lot of points to lower league teams who just make it physical and we dont seem to able to cope. I think it wholly reasonable to suggest that Wenger's style and his choice of players these days will never win a PL trophy.
Cb - you are misunderstanding my argument. I am saying that we struggle against physical teams because we are not physical. If we added some steel we could mix it up with those teams if we needed to. Nobody is talking about being thuggish FFS And the Pulis and Allardyce comment was a suggestion that both managers know the key ingredients to do well in the english league - nobody can say that Allardyce's Blackburn and Pulis' Stoke are easy or comfortable games, they are/were 2 of the most difficult games in the season away for us. Why? We are/were not physical. Both teams have been comfortably in the top half of the league under those managers. Pace and power being 2 important attributes, technique being the third - technical players cost a lot more .. but you can't ignore the value of having power and pace. As you say, its about the balance - which we haven't had right since Flamini left us.
Agreed that's my point. We need the best of both worlds in order to achieve our optimum. It needed not be one or the other. Why not both?
Spot on Players like Wilshere, Frimpong and Lansbury already combine both. But I think we could do with one or two more.
I'd like to see Wenger acknowledge this with his purchases as well though, not just our home grown players who may or may not become first team regulars. He needs to buy in what we need at times.
Well in that case I believe him too. I shall bow to his superior knowledge - even if I think it is crackers
I heard he was next in line for the SKy Sports analyst role - he'd be perfect controlling that electronic chalk board thing. I can just hear it now: "Van Persie's mistake was to make his run, which you should never do in case the linesman calls you offside"
Agreed I think Wenger thought that Skill and guile alone would outsmart the likes of Stoke and Bolton, but for too many seasons we've simply been bullied out of these games. There are strong rumours that Wenger has tied up a deal for M'Vila, which would be a perfect example of the type of signing we're asking for.
Actually you are the ones that criticize your betters, I tend to stick to observations. I am old and past it, and I have perhaps realized that one does not enhance oneself by beating down others. Sad trend nowadays, and one which is ultimately destructive, not consructive, despite protests to the contrary. Too many haters.
In all seriousness, the only reason you are having the piss ripped out of you is because you act like the village idiot.
Not really sure why you say that, because it bears very little relation to my post, or the thread. If anyone doesn't agree with you, then you personally attack them. How can I be criticized for pointing out that I am entitled to disagree with your choices, just as much as you are entitled to disagree with Wegner's choices? Are you the only one entitled to an opinion?
Let me spell it out to you again - every one of your arguments against others criticises people for having an opinion, as if somehow they are not entitled because they are not as good a football manager as Arsene Wenger. At the same time you portray yourself as a master tactician. The problem is when you try you come up with some real comedy moments.
On the contrary, every one of my posts disagrees with your opinion. I have NEVER criticised someone for having an opinion. I have only criticised them for the assumpion that their opinion is correct, usually because they prove that opinion with, "Everything at Arsenal is wrong because we aren't winning, therefore I must be right." When people come out wth crap saying that a Tony Adams type defender would work in today's premier league, I'm going to tell them that they are being stupid. I love Tony Adams to death, but he would be ripped to shreds by today's teams.
