This Caldy Island thread seems to have morphed into the old ' Vetch's Musical Thread ''. No less the worse for that, of course. <laugh>

Is it still around, or has lack of use done for it ?

Like others have said, impossible to pick just 8 songs - but I'll pick 8 songs which have probably had some effect on my life the most.

    1. U2 - Bad - Live Aid performance. Honestly - this song has got me to where I am in my life today. I saw this on TV watching Live Aid at 14 years old and was blown away. My birthday was roughly 2 months after Live Aid and I asked for the album that contained the song Bad for my birthday gift. The album was The Unforgettable Fire and after listening to it I decided I wanted to play drums. This led me to study performing arts rock and pop in college which then got me into live sound. This then became my job and eventually took me to work on cruise ships where I met my wife, and here we are today. So hands down this song , and this performance in particular has been the single most influential song in my life.

    2. U2 - Love is Blindness - Zoo TV Live performance. Contains my favourite ever guitar solo because it just gives me goosebumps. It it the sound of a guitar breaking down with a broken heart. I saw the Zoo TV show in Cardiff and London and nothing has come close to it since. I remember closing my eyes during this song and just being carried away by it's beauty.

    3. U2 - With or Without You - live at Abbey Road performance. Bit of a pattern here. Anyway, this is my favourite ever song, and this is one of the most amazing performances of it..

    4. Arcade Fire - Wake Up - Live, many of the songs I love are usually the live versions. There's something special about the electricity in the air when it's live. Arcade Fire are a bit like U2 to me in that there is a spirituality about being at one of their shows. Wake Up is another goosebump experience when singing with the crowd.

    5. Talking Heads - Girlfriend is Better - Live from Stop Making Sense. This is one of the songs that made me want to play in a band. It's just pure joy to see musicians absolutely loving what they do.

    6. Infected Mushroom - Heavyweight. This song completely changed how I feel about electronic music. It goes through time and genre changes all the way through and is truly inspiring music to me. Feels like you've been on a journey by the end of the track.

    7. Garbage - #1 Crush. Simply the best song I've ever had sex to.

    8. Switchfoot - Thrive. The lyrics have a special meaning to me and are very relatable to this long fight I've been having with cancer.

Even if you don't like the song, I dare say there's something else worthwhile about this video. <laugh>

Just imagine dancing around that palm tree on Caldey with ravishing Rita. :emoticon-0152-heart

The Utah Saints song (with the Kate Bush sample) made me laugh, and the Blue Man Group need more drums lol.

This one was banned by almost everyone, including BBC, and religious groups.

Some people should get a life.

The Swans used to run out to this one back in the day at The Vetch Field.

In honour of their winger Jimmy McLaughlin.
