Funniest thing is you could really do with him back, but he'd never sign for you ever again <laugh>

I don't think he would have any trouble signing for us again if the circumstance was right, he loved his time here. Still speaks very fondly of the club.

We would never sign him is more the case. We won't pay good money for anyone over 26. We won't pay top whack on wages. We used each other well I suppose from our boards point of view. He got his big move through the stepping stone and loved his time here. They got a shed load of money.

The only stickler for him would be London or Newcastle. Same as for every player. They all prefer London.

Then you have to give John Carver credit also.

He was his head coach at Newcastle, also the other guys, Steve Stone is it? **** sake.

Cabaye was your big fish, Pardew did a good job of playing him in his position in my opinion. He never looked good in a tackle at Lille or Newcastle, he was another Paul Scholes in that respect although he seemed to get away with more than Scholesy.

He was well better suited to the faster pace of this league, I'm not surprised he wants back into the EPL if these stories are true, I'm only surprised there's no better clubs in for him.

All he did was be honorable and polite, a proper pro. You can't convince me any player who left either of our teams would even contemplate going back unless it was a step up. He doesn't have the loyalty of Colback, don't kid yourself.

Plenty good players come and don't improve. Indeed plenty go backwards. Its not all down to managers or coaches, plenty is down to the individual. With Pardew though, he did handle the various issues that Cabaye encountered very well. This was what allowed him to continue his upward progression. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one, I think he was well managed and that played a big big part in playing to his full capability and improving his all round game.

I agree that it is surprising better clubs are not in. Who is there though? Are Liverpool or Spurs going to fork out 10m for a 29 yr old? If Liverpool hadn't signed Milner maybe. Spurs - Levy is more interested in resale. He'll spend big, he'll spend massive in fact, but usually on sub 26 yr olds. Below the top six or so sides, there isn't much to choose from. Palace at least offer London. We wouldn't dream of spending that on him. He wouldn't go to Sunderland. Villa, WBA, Stoke - its all much of a muchness. So London takes precedence.

    Everton maybe?

The talk is of Palace though. I'm sure both our sides could operate in a similar market. We won't for a 29 yr old. The only two players I can think we have signed in the last 5 years over the age of 25 is Debuchy (who we knew was going to sell well quickly) and Cisse. A silly club policy which again is centred around money. If Ashley was truly changing he'd change this also to help us get better balance and a better football side. I don't think he'll change one bit - despite his pissed up interview.

West Ham. I guess if he wants London and the likes of Arsenal and Spurs don't want him then he's restricting his options drastically.

He's good enough for both Arsenal and Spurs, if Spurs signed him he'd improve them no doubt about it. Spurs going for re-sale is probably the reason they fail so miserably every season innit.

Exactly, it's paper talk, don't believe anything until it's has more legs than a millipede. Palace are head of us both anyway. They've got a much better squad.

When Pedro came back he took a step UP as we then went on to challenge for the title for a couple of years.

I sincerely doubt that Cabaye will end up at Crystal Palace or Newcastle. His wages will now be in the next tier and neither club could afford them. The only scenario I could see this happening is on a 12 months loan but even then I don't think he'd be choosing us over all the other clubs that would be interested. Cabaye will want a Champions League club IMHO.

Colo's used to pinning people against walls - Especially youngish females that work for the club
