I think that before people begin saying "Chasing European football" and "top 7 side" we must realize that not only do the usual top 4 remain as financially strong as ever, but there is now going to be a "top 6" rather than top 4 with Manchester City and Tottenham showing they are more than capable of fielding strong starting 11's week after week in every competition. Unfortunately as soon as we receive injuries to a few of our key players we're going to be looking like a top 15 side and that's it. If Tiote Cabaye Demba Ba and Leon Best all get injured for even a single gameweek together then our push for top 10 is effectively over. Don't even get me started on what may happen to an injury to our backline

Couldn't have him as better than Barton already. Not sure he'll ever be better than Barton but I would struggle to pick one out of the two. Play the game at a very similar level for me. Certainly less trouble than Barton! But he came to replace Nolan and he is a more progressive option than him. As I watched on Saturday I couldn't help but wonder how good our midfield might have been if we retained Bartons services. Him, Tiote, Cabaye and Jonas is a terrific midfield for me. Ball retention would be very high which is crucial in the PL. I don't think Bartons talent should be underestimated. He gave us the run around for me the other week and although he was very good, that wasn't one of his best games. Just a very clever player. Big mistake letting him go but c'est la vie!

    crikey, that is deluded.

let's not get carried away, it was a draw and only a few days earlier we were turgid against QPR.

1st 11 wise, it wouldn't have been so deluded if we had kept all our original players:

    -----------------Krul----------------
    Santon --- Saylor --- Colo --- Enrique
    Barton --- Cabaye --- Tiote --- Jonas
    ---------------Ben Arfa--------------
    ----------------Carroll---------------

As it stands though, yes, it's deluded. We would probably need:

    - A new RB
    - If Santon doesn't perform at his best - a new LB
    - A new right winger - unless Marveaux turns out awesome
    - Probably a new left winger
    - A new striker

And most importantly, we would have to keep all our original players we have now to add some quality depth, so players like Jonas and Simpson are back-ups.

Funnily enough, so far you wouldn't say we would need any new defensive players, but I don't expect this defensive run of form to go on forever - especially against some of the better teams.

More CB cover as well, we could do with that.
