As much as I dislike Lambert you have to feel for the guy, trying to compete in the PL with no money to spend is almost impossible!
Sorry mate, got no sympathy for somebody in charge of a team that can't score goals and sends a player like Bent on loan.
I find it amusing how the Norwich fans act like the a woman scorned everytime you mention his name, if it wasn't for him they probably wouldn't even have a club by now. just shows what a bitter bunch of two faced arseholes they really are.
Like most of us on here, I wasn't too fond of him when he was at Norwich, but I still think he will still go on to be a good manager An interesting twist to the story will be that the new Villa manager may want to recall a certain Mr. Darren Bent... and with Chris Martin injured Derby may well be short of options up front because of this decision
i hear they cannot recall bent due to the loan conditions....... haha villa! Also read somewhere prior ( not sure how true it is ) if he makes a handful more appearances at Villa they'd owe Sunderland another £6 mil or something like that.
Sorry I know this may well go against the grain but I actually am a huge admirer of Paul Lambert and think that he has been harshly treated. He took a complete bunch of no hopers who were on the brink of oblivion and got them to the premier league and kept them there. If he was our manager we would be in awe of these achievements. Yes he managed the scum but you have to to take your hat off to him and what he achieved.
Possibly but you can't ignore the fact that he had to slash the playing budget and get all the high earners off the books! Basically he had £13 Million a season to spend which in the context of the Premier League is peanuts!
I hang my head in shame........Premier League sponsored by the almighty Dollar................ And I don't mean David Van Day and his missus......
He did a very good job at Norwich, the reason I don't like him too much is because he dropped them like a hot potato when Villa came calling.
He had a good thing going up the road. Loved by the fans and in charge of a successful team, he had backing from the board and a sound financial base to work from but thought the grass was greener on the other side. His Villa statistics make horrible reading, I believe he's lost almost 50% of the matches in his time there.
That is very true... But you could also argue that he had taken Norwich as far as he possibly could. He was unlikely to ever better the league position that he had achieved and effectively his (and the team's) trajectory were destined to plateau, or tail off. Add into the fact that Villa were/are considered a 'sleeping giant' who had been massively underachieving with a decent Premier league squad that (the majority would have you believe) with the right direction could be challenging at the sharp end of the Premier League table. It seemed a logical move, but for the glamour of the Villa job to wear off quicker than you could interpret what he was actually saying in his first press interview
He tried the same tactics at villa as he did at Norwich. Got rid of the older experienced players and replaced them with younger and hungrier players. Unfortunately for him at Villa he got rid of all the experience and the replacements were very poor. Other than Benteke did he actually sign a player that was ready for the premiership? Although he had proved to be a pita for Town during his spell as Norwich Boss, I think he walked too early and should have stayed up the road for another year or two.
