Oh stick a ****ing sock in it you cretin. I have my right to an opinion and you have no right to put me down on it, especially when your putting me down is that it's "boring" when you've done nothing but bore the crap out of me the entire time I've been here. I recognize the name but don't actually know anything about your views and opinions because all you've done is bore me from day one. Hypocrite.

Nice to be more aware of your views <ok>

Obviously I understand the frustration and I can imagine it's just as tedious reading about positivity and excitement as we find reading about the negativity. At the end of the day, people are different and will go about the situation in different ways. I try my best to stay level headed about everything (although I'll be the first to admit I don't always manage it!) - like the McCormack contract. It's ridiculous how we can't make a realistic attempt to tie down our best player last season to a good contract, especially when his departure surely means the departure of Snoddy too. People saying he's not that good are obviously looking for positives and are presumably assuming we will find someone of a better quality - unlikely. But there are question marks over whether he will fit into Warnock's system next year. Obviously everything points to Bates refusing to give him the wages he deserves, but sometimes I do think Warnock might have a say too - at least more than Grayson did. That's just my opinion there.

The majority of it is purely down to opinion. Releasing White is something that personally doesn't bother me all that much, I've always thought he has potential, but I've never really been convinced about him. Obviously yourself and many others probably view that as an alarming lack of ambition, which is completely understandable. I think it's clear that Warnock is planning for the short term - he's said he wants to leave us in a good condition but he is only here with one objective - and if he's planning for the short term then he's going to need all the money he can get to reshuffle the squad. Whether he actually gets the funds he needs from Bates is very unlikely, and if he gets the money Bates has presumably told him he can have for selling players is also a highly dubious promise. I completely understand the frustrations with people, probably like myself, discussing the highly improbable situation in which Warnock could attempt to bring in players to improve the squad with the money he (probably won't) get from selling players.

Naturally some of your anger is going to be misdirected, and I completely sympathise with the fact you don't want to argue with fans and you want us all to pull in the same direction, and I hope I speak for everyone on here when I say we all want the exact same things you do - just some of us like to look for positives even when there isn't really any. It's fair enough that you get sick of hearing about our interest and excitement in the close season, much in the same way we get a bit sick of hearing about all the negatives. History would suggest you are completely right, but people are different - we like to try and hope for the best, even if that hope is completely and utterly misguided.

Trust me though, whatever state of awareness of what's happening throughout the club (and I don't claim to be completely aware of what's happening btw) every fan has, we all want exactly the same as you do: everyone pulling in the same direction, and as far away from the disaster that is Bates as possible.

That just goes to show how you did NOT read Marko's contribution, who did not read the original post and how it was praising Bates for what he did, and you are one of those who decided Marko was slating the guy instead of putting across a different opinion on why Bates may have done this.

This is the point. You are obsessed with slagging off Marko and you read the wrong stuff into his posts.

    Bad.

Marko, your best post for a long while. <applause> Seriously. You've clearly thought it out and not launched into the rhetoric which you're normally associated with.

Forgive me for winding you up quite as much as I have. I may not have ADHD (although the jury is out on that one given my history), but I almost certainly have a screw loose. It often takes the form of winding up a zealot until they explode, or fighting against injustice. The former has applied to your good self, and for that I apologise. Honestly (and I accept this is hard to believe), I have been (perhaps misguidedly) trying to do this for your own good.

I am now officially retiring myself from this windup programme, and offering you the olive branch. Why am I doing this? The mail above gives me hope that you may have reached the point of reconsideration of your position - i.e. you have not ranted whist stating your position. you have also made it clear why you get upset whilst we discuss items that you consider to be frivolous. I'm afraid that 'frivolous' items will continue to be discussed, and you really mist consider accepting it for what it is (in the majority's eyes). You will simply ostracise yourself if you don't.

Hope you take this olive branch in good part.

I was enjoying the thread until whitejock made a pointless "I forgot about your crystal ball" comment. It's not funny it's just a sly jab at those who can accurately predict the future based on what they know. It's like weather forecasting, not 100% accurate but a damn sight better than nothing at all, and not something to be fobbed off with pointless comments like that.

It essentially says "oh you haven't just blindly stuck your head in the sand and decided to wait and see so you must have a crystal ball and the ability to predict the future" - no, we just have a memory longer than 5 seconds because we're not a **** scottish goldfish.

Can I just point out, I didn't praise Bates for what he did! I just thought it was a nice story and it was a nice touch by Bates. I didn't think for ulterior motives, and that might have been a mistake. But please don't assume I was glorifying Bates as some sort of hero. Marko's opinion is fair enough, and yes, Bates probably did have ulterior motives, but my reasoning for posting it was that the man was an inspiration and I thought Bates was doing a nice thing, that's all!

I give as good as I get, that's all it comes down to. Of course I will always take a peace offering. I'm not a ****, believe it or not.

I am of the opinion that, for the most part, people are nice and they do nice things. Power often corrupts that. Power is even worse if it is in the hands of someone who is a complete and utter twat. If someone is a complete twat, I see nothing but lies when they perform the occasional redeeming act. I see nothing but ulterior motive, because they think of nothing but themselves. In this case, it's blame shifting to the players. He's made his feelings about "players not earning the massive wages we pay them" perfectly clear in the past. We all know that the players just haven't been talented enough.

Btw, Marko, the crystal ball was aimed at Simon. An it was an attempt at humour that would probably pass in the pub (but obviously didn't on 'paper').

Which is a reasonable assumption to make. And looking for ulterior motives in Bates' actions is fair enough, and in hindsight I arguably should've done that before posting it. However, I didn't look for one because I simply liked the story, and Bates had a part to play, whether it was for a different reason or not. Just thought I'd clear it up that I wasn't glorifying him in any way! <laugh>

These things rarely do on the internet, I know it wasn't aimed at me because I wasn't in the thread, but it still comes across as a not-so-sly cheap shot.

But do any of you have a strong opinion, either way, about Alan Smith coming back to Leeds United? <whistle><peacedove>
