We can all talk about who we would want in an ideal world (Messi isn`t bad apparently) but do we not need to factor in

    1. Our position at the end of the season - top 10 vitally important to bring in better quality signings
    2. Our wage structure - not saying we ought to break the bank but we need to be realistic and acknowledge that the best players are on a kings ransom and if we aren`t prepared (for the right player) to flex our structure, then we limit ourselves in terms of who we might get in anyway
    3. Geography - whilst some of us love the area many from afar do not, seems many live in Newcastle - if they are looking to live their why not play there?

We do, however, have something to offer that others do not

    1. A "guarantee" (or better chances of!) regular first team pitch time; and
    2. The MON factor - he is a well regarded "man manager" and certainly much better respected than SB - I would hope that we are a more attractive proposition to many than we were last year, what I do hope though is that MON buys better than SB.

Most of the players mentioned would strengthen our squad and would do a job, although I have my doubts about Johnson's mental state at the moment and I don't think we need Hennesey. The boys that came in last year all did well and so I hope that we do pick up a couple of these, Fletcher in particular

Yeah, i'm not suggesting we sign Johnson & Hennessey, more making the point that these are players of a very decent calibre, I guarantee Hennessey will be at a strong club next season.

Taarabt, Olsson, Hoillett, Fletcher & Yakubu would fix a lot of leaks, add goals, and add creativity.

O'Hara is an excellent CM as well, not any better than Vaughan though, in reality.

I think we should be busting a gut to sign Hoillett. Hes a good young player who is performing well now and will only get better. There will be a lot of top clubs after him but we could offer him regular first team football that he wouldnt get at a bigger club.
I would also take Yakubu or Fletcher. Good solid forwards and we could expect 10 - 15 goals a season from either of them.

Taarabt wouldn't last 5 minutes with O'Neill if he sulked the way he does at QPR - complete Diva - very good footballer mind you.

If Sessegnon were to leave then I think Hoilett would be a ready made replacement - very similar in stature and a very good player - of the bottom 4 teams there'd be Hoilett & Jarvis that I'd be interested in - Fletcher wouldn't interest me - I have watched him a few times and think he's over-rated - just my opinion though (although we are short of strikers so signing him would improve the squad!)

By the same token, if MON could get Taarabt mentally right, he could be a stunning signing.

    STRIKER Sess
    McLean Catts Taarabt Hoillett

    Pretty ****ing decent..

Agreed completely!! IF we have those and Jarvis as back up for McClean I'd be quite happy (as long as, as you say, Taraabt or however it's spelt has his head in the right place!!)

All opinions I know but i think wed concede a helluva lot of goals with that midfield McClean is terrible for ball watching and letting his man go and Hoillett and taarabt aren't the tracking back types. Very exciting going forward though that lot would be.

Jarvis as back up for McClean? Id say Jarvis is as good if not better currently. If McClean hadn't emerged this year Jarvis would have been high on my wish list.

Striker is unnamed mate, with Sess in behind!

I don't think it'd affect the goals conceded column too much, and i'd be quite satified to win 3-2 or 4-3 as opposed to 1-0 or 2-0!
