Yes, I agree Bright. Although the FIA require the teams to hand back sets of tyres - which will mean they are simply wasted if they are not used, the fact that they disintegrate so quickly is very likely to severely limit experimentation, particularly by a team which is already behind in development. - Furthermore, as I have been saying since it became obvious just how weak Pirelli's tyres are, this will reduce the possibility that development throughout a season can claw back any deficit, since more testing always allows the struggling team to get closer to 'the knowledge of the day'.
This plus the increased 'marbles' we are likely to see off line in the races makes a changing of the rules/regs more and more likely before the season finishes. We may all be surprised by how the weekend works out, and we may all be praising Pirelli of course. As I keep saying, its all exciting stuff!
Yes, this is a good point Canary. It should be obvious to all that a reduction in testing is always an advantage to those who get it right first. Unfortunately the 'powers that be' seem to have forgotten that part of what has made the past few seasons so fascinatingly close, was the greater chance for the weaker teams to claw something back. - Instead, their short-sighted pandering to an ignorant fan base who clamoured for cheap overtaking, is very likely to make the gap even bigger.
Yea, this contrived increase in overtaking to increase the entertainment aspects for the masses is extremely dangerous, we have a potentially falable device changing the dynamics of downforce at highest speeds, not a great idea, already the device has been banned for use in the wet.
Hopefully they won't change the rules before Sunday, this will only confuse the matter further. After the weekend it makes sense to review the effects of the ARW (or DRS as it seems to now be called) and make changes accordingly.
Actually, Bright, I think the thing will get banned pretty soon, Its a very foolish concept, I've done a quick risk assesment and an FMEA on it and the results show its a flawed and dangerous concept with probable terminal consequences
