Did Phelan have a big influence? Not sure it's that clear cut. He was also on board when we had two dismal no-shows against Reading and also in the cup at Preston. Those two big wins may have fooled some people but they were against abysmal opponents. All the same defensive problems remain, despite his input. We're the only club he's worked for in 18 months - why is that? And don't even get me started on his body language!
Don't be ridiculous. This whole Adams vendetta is getting very boring. I haven't heard a single person who thought sacking Adams wasn't the right decision (save for Binners, obviously). There are a few who seem intent to unduly criticised Adams beyond his obvious shortcomings. There are a few who are understandably tentative about an unknown and inexperienced manager. That's as far as it goes.
I've read somewhere that Phelan is linking up with his ex Norwich and Man Utd team mate Steve Bruce at Hull. Now there is a Budgie 'Dream Team' if ever there was one!
Yes it is ridiculous Rob. I made my reservations about Adams clear at the time he was appointed. I actually favoured MacKay at the time, but looking at how he is doing at Wigan, I now think that would have been the wrong decision. My thread earlier was about the importance of the players buying into Neil's approach the way they had bought into Phelan's, as shown by the Turner quote. I didn't criticise Neil's approach to that interview. What I actually said was: "Neil has chosen to attack the players. Is it a case of them not buying into his approach, though, the way they bought into Phelan's? Time will tell, I suppose. I do very much hope that Neil can turn this around, and the arrival of McAvoy may help with that, but I'm no longer feeling at all confident of that happening now." Supers seems to have taken a George W. Bush approach (slightly paraphrased) 'You're either with Neil or you're against him', when what I actually said was: "I do very much hope that Neil can turn this around, and the arrival of McAvoy may help with that, but I'm no longer feeling at all confident of that happening now."
