Hi Guys, Just signed up after years of reading all your interesting and informative posts. I have been a supporter of the mighty Blues for over 50 years seeing the highs and the lows. Don't get to visit PR very often but managed to get to the game yesterday with my son and a close friend, and boy what a game to pick! I could not believe how poor we were and just hope this is as bad as it gets and the only way is up. Mick, in my opinion, has done a terrific job to keep us in the Championship over the past 5 years bearing in mind the restricted budget and our frugal owner. But surely the time has arrived when we need a change. We will survive this season but unless drastic changes are made, I do fear for the future.
Welcome Kentish, great to have you on board So you're a long standing supporter of the club, how do you feel about watching the game yesterday and are you likely to return anytime soon? I've been living outside of England for over 15 years and until this season didn't get to see many matches but I watch the live stream now. I found it easier to be positive about the club when I only had radio commentary to base my opinions on but having seen the majority of games this season that changed rapidly. How do you feel now after being in the ground, witnessing the hostility towards Mick and seeing the performance?
Welcome Kentish, I'm sorry if we sound pessimistic, bored, and generally slashed off but weve had years of practice.
I'm with you Nuggets, that is the last game I waste my money going to watch a Mick McCarthy Ipswich. I'm fed up of being bored senseless at football matches. Coincidentally I went with someone yesterday who wasn't an Ipswich fan and as we were going to the match we were talking about McCarthy and I said there's a bit of a groundswell against Mick from the fans at the moment and he couldn't understand why, like a lot of people who follow football but aren't Ipswich supporters he said considering how little money we've spent he thinks Mick has done a great job at Ipswich. Anyway after going to the match and he understood why Ipswich fans want Mick gone. Yesterday was soo bad, I stood cold, wet and bored and paid 30 quid for the privilege. Many people left after 70minutes and there were more people at the bars than in the stands towards the end because they couldn't face watching anymore. We were the home team against a bottom of the league Burton Albion and we didn't even take the game to them, we looked like the away team who couldn't pass the ball to each other, the only 2 outfield players to come out of the game with any credit were the newest recruits Carter-Vickers and Carayol but as always the new players come in, show that they can play football and after a few weeks get the footballing ability coached out of them. We were terrible on the ball, unfortunately I think the tactics and the lack of responsibility on the ball means alot of our players look worse on the ball than they actually are. Here's my match ratings Bart - 8 - Outstanding saves in the second half and actually was reasonably impressed with his distribution and actually the fact he tried to roll the ball out when he could to get play moving. Unfortunately the players didn't expect to receive the ball half the time and it was like watching someone with a hot potato. Spence - 3 - He was terrible, couldn't pass the ball, gave it away nearly everytime he had it. Clearly not a good player but not helped by lack of options to pass to or movement around him. Why the hell we give minutes to Spence and Iorfa ahead of Emmanuel is beyond me. If we're going to be rubbish you may as well chuck our own youngster in to develop. Carter-Vickers - 8 - I thought he was superb, strong, solid, powerful in the air and is going to be a PL player, he looks like an experienced pro already. Didn't put a foot wrong, only negative is why is someone who clearly isn't going to be here next season playing ahead of our own players. Chambers - 7 - not great on the ball but didn't really do too much wrong defensively Knudson - 4 - is this guy actually a football, adds nothing to our team IMO. Again should play Kenlock ahead of him. Skuse - 5 - made some great interceptions but on the ball offered nothing, we may as well of not had a midfield yesterday. He's a midfielder not a bloody sweeper!! Connolly - 4 - offered nothing again why develop someone else's player when we've got our own good youngsters coming through Ward - 4 - showed nothing but think there is a good player in there somewhere under the right guidance and management Celina - 4 - definitely an off game, didn't really show anything. One of those skillful players we get in a team without any creativity who feels they need to take on the whole of the opposition because noone else will but loses the ball everytime. Waghorn - 5 - Anonymous, does not suit playing in the no.10 role, put him wide right in a 3 or up top in a 2 Garner - 5 - battled hard but didn't do alot I can't wait for the day I actually enjoy going to watch Ipswich again
My thoughts entirely. I don't view Mick with as much disdain as some fans but 5 and a half years is an absolute eternity in football and I think it is well overdue that we have a bit of a "freshen up" Mick even says it himself when referring to the playing staff that you need some new faces in and around the place to 'keep things 'fresh' and right now we are the absolute opposite of Fresh... more like 'stale' and 'lifeless'
