This will be the first league match between these two sides and only the second competitive fixture with the last one being a EFL Cup match back in 2014 where the Brewers came out on top. However the two teams did meet in a pre-season friendly earlier this year which ended in a 1-1 draw. Burton’s rise to the top in the last few years has been nothing short of remarkable. 14 years ago they were in the Unibond League but the club has been developing both on and off the pitch every single season and now find themselves just one tier below the top of English football. It’s fair to say Burton have not looked out of place so far in the Championship. They have picked up nine points from nine games but Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Norwich was the first league match they have lost by more than one goal. Their two victories so far this season have both come in home fixtures. Following the club’s promotion from League Two under the guidance of Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, the Dutchman left the Brewers top of League One and joined QPR last December. It was left to Nigel Clough to complete the job of getting Burton promoted after he was appointed as Hasselbaink’s successor. To help keep them in the division Burton brought 14 players in during the summer transfer market including forward Chris O’Grady on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion. They are a side more known for their defensive qualities highlighted by the fact they only conceded 37 goals last season, which was comfortably the least amount of goals in League One last season. please log in to view this image please log in to view this image TEAM NEWS QPR: Sebastian Polter (foot) and Jordan Cousins (hamstring) will both face late fitness tests ahead of the clash, whilst Ben Gladwin (ankle) and James Perch (knee) remain sidelined. Burton Albion: Burton are monitoring the fitness of Ben Turner and Chris O'Grady ahead of the visit of QPR. Tom Flanagan will serve a ban following his red card against Norwich City but fellow defender Kyle McFadzean is back in contention after his three-match ban. Dave Mac reporting this. I hope it is true and he's on the Bench at least as, if nothing else, it will probably mean there is no Green type factor involved with him.
Thanks Nines - great to see this thread as I was beginning to wonder if we weren't really at Fulham tonight.
The BEEB are reporting that Derby have suspended Nigel Pearson ahead of the match in Cardiff tonight. Seems like a lucky escape for us as were being linked with him.
Burton away midweek is the type of fixture we should be winning but exactly the type of fixture we tend to lose. Hoping we put in a performance and get the badly needed 3 points.
Something like this then I'd guess. Players out of position and Washington up top on his own again. That's worked well before please log in to view this image
Polter is a much better option up front than Washington. Grotesque, unbelievable, bizzare and unprecedented (check your Irish history for that one).
That team looks ultra cautious again, and with Washington up front it is hard to see where goals will come from. Sylla injured? Polter probably not fully fit either.
