RIP Burt Reynolds, heart attack at 82. Made some daft films, but also Deliverance and a couple of other decent ones.
The Longest Yard was decent as well. He was also in some bad ones. Smokey and the Bandit 2 springs to mind. He was also in a musical that was so bad the director publicly apologised for making it. He was working on a Tarantino film when he died.
You know if they had finished filming his part in it? Or might have to cgi him like they had to with Brandon Lee when he done the crow.
I don't know where they were up to, but when Oliver Reed died part way through filming Gladiator they used a double and shot him from behind as well as CGI so anything is possible. They could even rewrite the film so they can just use the parts he had already filmed.
he wouldn't be considered one of Hollywood greats would he? probably driven by one character TBH and played on that character type in later stuff like that longest yard etc. It's a shrug from me. not a fan, looks like he lived a nice life and that.
Hard to argue with that. Apparently he turned down some really big film roles like Han Solo in Star Wars, One flew over the cuckoos nest and Pretty woman. He really regretted not taking Han Solo and wanted the role in One flew over..but for some reason turned it down. Rumours in Hollywood is he also turned down Die Hard and Terms of Endearment. Sounds like he made some seriously bad decisions in his acting career but it's hard to imagine him doing a better job than Jack in either One flew over and Terms of Endearment. He would have been perfect for Han Solo apart from his age.
He also turned down James Bond, to replace Connery And apparently hated shooting Boogie Nights and hated the final film so much he sacked his agent, the film proceeded to get him a Best Supporting nomination. Lets just say he wasn't the best judge of good cinema and the bad decisions were his own.
Many actors "turn down" parts, when they weren't actually offered them but they were on a list somewhere. Nobody had ever heard he was going to be James Bond until this week. He was more famous for being Burt Reynolds than anything else. He reminds me of that Spitting Image sketch about Orson Welles' career going in reverse. Started with Deliverance and it was all downhill from there. Still, nothing wrong with a bit of trash cinema now and again, if it also had Demi Moore's tits.
Actually 2015 when he did an interview about roles he'd turned down. Story goes that Cubby Broccoli asked him to play Bond when they knew Connery didn't want to continue, but he turned it down because Bond is English and Reynolds couldn't do any type of British accent. Apparently he was first choice. However I think in Reynolds case, for films like One Flew over the Cuckoos nest and Star Wars, was that the producers sent him the script (and probably a few other actors) with an idea of him (or one of them) playing a specific role. But he passed on it as he didn't understand or like the script. He may have been top choice, he may not have been but the only people who know are the director and producer, essentially the film companies hedge their bets on getting their first choice but if they don't they've already started with 2nd or 3rd choice. I imagine Ford was probably first choice for Solo because of his relationship with Lucas and Reynolds only ever saw a Script just in case Ford didn't want it.
Unless I know them personally I'm not bothered. Don't understand the public sometimes- the princess Diana death was a mine field of ****ing stupidity if you ask me.... Unless you knew her of course.
