If Burns does decide to move on this summer which I think it’s possible, it got me thinking. If you ignore free transfers / bosman signings and just concentrate on players that have had a fee paid for them. In the modern era, has there been a better £50,000 signing than him? For what he has given the club performance wise over the last 5 years, it has to be the bargain of all time - proven by we spent £30m last summer trying to find his replacement and he was still the best of them. Would love if he stayed but I think it would be as cover only (RM & possibly RB) and at his age, he might want 1st team football.

I got the distinct impression he was saying his goodbyes when he was subbed but what a servant he's been both on and off the pitch and scorer of our most memorable goal in recent history.

Whatever is next for Wes he'll go with all Townies' best wishes.

Yeah, I think Burns has been our best value signing over the last couple of decades. For those first two promotion seasons, he was an absolute beast on the pitch and he’ll go down as one of my favourite ever Ipswich players.

As Big Al says, yesterday felt like a farewell substitution in the ground. I’m sure he won’t be short of offers from Championship clubs.

In my opinion, the only cheap transfer that would compete is Tyrone Mings. Bought for £10k, had a couple of good seasons for us, and was then sold on for a massive profit at £9 million odd. And that was our record transfer sale until last summer when we sold Delap and Hutchinson.

What a player. Legend of the club. Probably one of my favourite town players of all time. Really maximised the ability he's got in his time here. I had a tear in my eye as he went off, felt like a goodbye. He's brought so many great memorable moments the past 5 years...has there been another player to produce more memorable moments in a Town shirt?

I actually think Burns will stay. It might be a short term contract offered to him but my feeling is he will take it and be a part of next season.

If that doesn't happen, he's already a modern day Ipswich legend and I wish him the best in his next adventure.

This is a rumour id hope isn't true his presence/absence from the team do seem to coincide with good runs/bad runs, but seems to have a lot of legs to it.

However, he'd go with all our thanks and best wishes. and McAteer appears to have eventually found his footing as an able deputy (if we don't look to the market for a replacement)
