I got it too..... my surname meant I was always 'appalling' ... one teacher particularly enjoyed it...
With my accent I had to give better than I got when we moved to Watford. Some of the teachers at WBGS took an instant and long-lasting dislike to me for having the temerity to fend off around six of their pet pupils all at the same time. That's probably why I played up in their classes for the following three years.
