But equally, in the 26 years prior to the creation of the Premier League only 8 teams won the First Division title. And 3 of those only once. So it's not the Premier League that has caused the title to be monopolized be a small group of clubs. And any such monopolisation is not the result of the super rich. What the Premier League has done though, is increased the gulf between the top division and the division(s) below it. That has been damaging to football as a whole. A European Super League would do that on an even bigger scale. The whole landscape of British football would be changed. SAFC wouldn't be a slightly bigger fish in a smaller pool. We, along with every other club not in the European Super League, would become an also ran. We would not have the potential, no matter how slim, to reach the pinnacle of the game. To go back to the US sports analogy, we would be minor league. Yes, it's fun in League One. But it's only fun because we know that one day we might be playing Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea again. That's what every team in the land aspires to. You take that possibility away and you kill football.
Football doesn’t work without promotion and relegation, and the USA are introducing that year after next I’m sure I read? Fear of failure is just as important as dreams of winning for competitive sport.
