SN23 - I'm just having a laugh with you, don't take things the wrong way mate.

Fair play to you for backing Grabban. I respect that, even if I don't agree with it. Personally, my opinion hasn't changed. That's due to Grabban's overall contribution. I don't like 4-4-2, would much prefer to see 4-2-3-1. I think Jerome is better than Grabban as a lone frontman.

    * with Redmond - Hoolahan - Murphy behind.

We're doing very well, but I don't think I'm the only one who thinks that we've not quite hit top form as yet as the balance isn't quite right.

It's the morning after here in Vietnam and I want to partly retract some of my comments from last night. I always over-react during games, especially since I'm half drunk by the time the game kicks off (it's 9 or 10 at night here).

I'd like to tone down my remarks about Adams. He's done a fantastic job so far. After last season we could have sunk like Fulham and that hasn't happened. Being top after nine games is a real achievement in the situation which he took over (a demoralised and divided squad).

As for Grabban, he does seem wasteful, but he gets himself into scoring positions so often that missed opportunities can be forgiven. I'd be nervous about relying on him in the Prem, though.

Even sober and calm, I think we've had huge slices of luck this season. But I also think we've made most of that luck. Teams with good spirit usually do.

And SN23 - I was not trying to wind you up at all. Sorry if I did.

I think it's great that we can all come on here and voice our opinions. Sure it might get a little heated or tetchy but that is the nature of having an opinion, not everyone will agree with it.

I'm fully behind Adams and very impressed with how he has gotten these players up for this season without any hang over from the last 2 years (Wolves away not withstanding). I just still see big room for improvement, which when we're top of the league is a good thing! We've had a little bit of luck this season with some goals perhaps covering up our weaknesses but to be top, 3 points clear of 3rd and with half a squad yet to even play, the future is bright and I'm happy. I was just annoyed that for the 5th game in a row we started badly with a formation I think is hampering our overall quality as a team.

I hope to see a few fresh faces this Tuesday, the likes of Vadis, Howson, maybe Murphy (though I still think he is best as an impact player) and possibly Hooper though apparently he is going to be in the development squad again tomorrow so I don't think he'll make the team on Tuesday.

I think there are still fitness problems for Hooper, thus the Development squad game. As for Grabban, he was certainly our liveliest forward yesterday. I've just watched the 10 minutes of highlights on The Football League Show and it looks to me that his 'miss' in front of goal was in fact an attempted cross to Jerome who was in a much better position, but just a bit late to react. Like others on here, I don't care for the 4-4-2 because it forces Wes to play wide and restricts movement up front. The same four players could play in the 4-2-3-1 with Jerome up top, Grabban and Redmond 'wide-ish' and Wes in the hole.

It was good to see Adams getting credit from Steve Claridge for the way he handled the transfer window and the squad he has assembled in doing so. Like Colk, I see "big room for improvement", which as he says is a good thing when we're top of the league. I thought the CB partnership is improving and Hooiveld is now settling in well. We still have Hooper, Howson and Odjidja-Ofoe to come and Josh Murphy is maturing into an excellent player as shown by his dribbling ability and superb finish yesterday. Plenty of room for optimism.

I actually think that was one of Grabban's best games this season, in the second half at least. He was getting on the ball far more and in areas where he can hurt the opposition. Whether this was because the rest of the team upped their game or he was just getting himself about more I don;t know, I just hope he brings that level from the second half from the start (If he starts) against Charlton, though the same could be said for the whole team.

Excellent posts from CotB and ReR.

There are still fitness issues with some players I'm sure and hopefully we'll have a fairly full squad to choose from in the not too distant future.

As had been said both on this post and on previous threads - this is a forum and not everyone will agree and should feel free to voice their opinions!!!! ☺

IMO, Grabban wasn't bad in the first half either, Colk. He got into a good position to take's Wes's free-kick into the danger zone and made a cross that could have led to a goal if it hadn't been cut out. He also had a shot on target just deflected wide by a defender. IMO, he relishes the 'supporting striker' role which allows him to use his pace to good effect working around Jerome. I wonder whether he might get a 'rest' on Tuesday so Lafferty can take over that role with Grabban returning against Rotherham.

Wait to see how many we take to Hillsborough - I'll certainly be there!

Note - for anyone who wants to travel by train, get a ticket to Peterborough and then a ticket to Sheffield, as it saves quite a bit! ☺
