Not really. I was a bad bastard whilst growing up and gave them a hard time on and off. I got to know them well after university. I have a great relationship with both my daughters. They're both more like me than their mother and both confide a lot more to me as their mother is so straight.

I lost my dad when I was 6 and my mum when i was 20 both to different forms of the big c, yeah life was hard during my childhood and being left alone at 20 wasn't brilliant either, thankfully I was strong enough and tough enough to survive without going completely nuts.
I don't envy the extra time others have been lucky enough to spend with their parents than I had but i just hope they never wasted something so precious, keep the memories fresh in your mind and never let them fade and try to tell your kids about your childhood and life before its to late and the chance is gone.

Always remember theres always someone worse off than you, those words helped me through the bad times and hopefully they'll help others.

You've got daughters though who, generally speaking, bond more with their dads and tend to tell you a lot more than lads do. Fathers of sons aren't usually into tell me about your day type conversations, coupled with boys don't cry, means you can push emotions down that often need venting. With girls you can't get them to shut up!

That's a hard start in life Page, good for you that you toughed it out and got on with it, that takes strength and character. It certainly puts my moans into perspective.

No it doesn't mate, we all get dealt a hand in life, some better than others, but there's always someone better or worse off than you and that brings your own losses or gains into perspective.

Some really nice bad sad posts on this thread.

I agree with you, there's always someone worse off but lots of people dealt similar hands mess it up, you didn't, take the credit.
