They did one season in League One. We did four years.

We had two failed play off seasons in the last two decades. They've been promoted to the Premier League five times, including winning three Championship titles.

Far from me to die on this Norwich City hill, but I really cannot understand the argument for how we've had the better recent history or they've only been slightly better than us. Yeah, they haven't really achieved anything significant of note, but they have thoroughly outperformed us over the last two decades, with the exception of a League Cup semi-final (and honestly, apart from Norwich fans who cares about that tinpot cup?)

Again, if we could swap our recent history with theirs - I'm sure a large majority of Town fans understandably would.

The silver lining is that we're a better club and team at present, and hopefully that will continue over the years and decades to come.

I'm under 60 (just)and attended all the glory days of the 70s and 80s,legendary memories that will never die!

I've seen my team cheated out of a Cup Final appearance, win the FA and UEFA Cups, challenge consistently for the top spot in the top division of English Football, remain unbeaten at home in European competitions against the likes of Lazio,Barcelona and Inter Milan.

Whilst the 2000 Wembley Play-off Final was a great day out, I don't count that,or other promotions from the Second Tier, as real achievements.

The best any living Budgie can boast of is a League Cup win (woopie dos) and a freak goal against some German side!

Like BigAl, I have seen and lived thru those heady glory days, as a Town fan since 1959. To put things in perspective, I prefer to live in the present, and not get drawn into supporter spats.

As I write, we are enjoying the best of times and a remarkable season. 21 pts above Norwich. Fact. We outplayed City for most of our game. Undeniable.

Promotion is a real possibity but not a given. Lets face up to that exciting challenge if and when we do go up.

We have a very talented young manager, the envy of many, a fine squad of players who have come on leaps and bounds, a terrific club & community spirit and ambitious, supportive , but not reckless owners.

We are all enjoying the ride!

And they keep coming straight back down again because they’re a rubbish football team. And getting promoted because they can pay big wages and sign players other sides can’t afford. There’s no ambition at the club or sense of purpose, which is why this 14 years nonsense is a big deal for them.

Like I said, I’ll give you the Evans era when almost every club in every division was better run than Town but Norwich weren’t dominant 2000-2009.

And to keep repeating myself, even then we made a cup semi final and got to the play offs with the abysmal Mick McCarthy.

At the risk of repeating myself ad nauseum, we’ve got two massive games coming up.

Good achievements but doesn't make it in anyway interesting. Will any Norwich fans look back with delight on those relegation seasons in the PL or the ones where you were above the relegation zone with great fondness?

As I said other than being better than us at our lowest ebb the only time I've ever really been envious about Norwich was when Lambert was in charge, that was a phenomenal achievement, back to back promotions and a midtable PL finish...hopefully you'll be able to return the compliment soon <laugh>

I don't often think this but put a sock in it Nuggets.

They've been better than us consistently really since 2011 before that no definitely not, it was an awful spell for us, we were dire, football was dire we weren't well run. Would I rather ipswich have been a yoyo club in the PL without achieving anything of note instead of going stale in the Champsionship and getting relegated to League 1 of course but there were times I would've rather supported a non league team than follow us. Now we're the otherside would I swap my experiences in this century of seeing ipswich finish 5th in the PL, playing for 2 seasons in Europe maintaining our unbeaten home record beating Inter Milan getting to a cup semi final plus what has happened to us over the past couple of seasons over a couple of lower mid table finishes in the PL plus a few seasons of relegation battles (if you can call some of them battles)...no i would not.

Haha - you've been more patient than most who know me!

Well we can agree to that - let's settle this debate by taking it decade by decade then. I'd take our 2000s over theirs and their 2010s over ours. Let's hope we turn this decade around and have the better 2020s! Signs are positive.

The only reason I opened up this discussion was because someone mentioned Norwich were celebrating the draw because it was like our cup final.

Promotion to the Premier league is apparently not an achievement (when we do it ) & going 14/15 years without losing to Ipswich is not even worth mentioning .

I genuinely like Ipswich & in my lifetime (I'm under 50) Ipswich have been like a little brother that you can easily bully.

The only major shock was watching Gunny slip over & let the ball in decades ago.

Apparently Ipswich have a billionaire American in charge so that's usually a good leveller but at this point in time either side can still potentially get promoted, Ipswich looking the more likely.

I've experienced so many Promotions it's almost a given the following season will be depressing but it's the hope that keeps us hooked

Well you aren't very good at thinking then mate, .I'll be looking forward to our next cup final & hopefully push the unbeaten run into the 15th year .

Before I hoped Ipswich will get promoted but , as promotion isn't classed as an achievement then you won't mind staying in the Championship another season

    Happy Christmas <cracker>

Does the hope come from seeing other small teams being successful?

Getting promotion to the PL multiple times in the past decade or so is a great achievement, I hope these achievements will live long in Norwich fans memories and the stories of past glories will reverberate through the generations...it is powerful stuff.

I actually said your back to back promotions under Lambert was a great achievement and the only thing I've truly been jealous of in my lifetime supporting Ipswich. As I also said hopefully you'll be able to return the compliment.
