Yeah only thing I will miss about Sky if they lost the footy would be soccer Saturday, that makes Saturdays worth while, the whole lot are off their heads and its great to watch. Even more so when Hartlepool are getting hammered :p

While it's great there's more competition to Sky, it's not great for someone like my Father-In-Law. He's in his 80s and one of the few things he enjoys on terrestrial tv is the footy. He could actually afford Sky and BT tv but he can hardly work the TV set control he has now, so it would be impossible for him to operate multiple inputs and controls.

Listening to the radio this evening about Bt getting the Champions League and Europa League rights. BT paid more that twice what the Sky and ITV paid. Now they are estimating that the next Premier League rights could go for anything from 2 - 3 Billion. I though what Sky paid was eye watering but this is <yikes> what sort of money will the clubs get.

The question is what will BT charge it's customers monthly to view these matches and everything else. After all they've got the English and French rugby rights, the new rugby euro cup from next year and now the footie. The new sky.

As you've said Aber, not just football but sport in general. Sky having PL Football, Boxing, Cricket & F1. All terrestrial TV will be left with is Hockey, Swimming etc.

You do wonder when the Olympics, World Cup, Six Nations & Wimbledon will eventually be snapped up.

A friend of mine is an economist and moved to London, I spoke with him tonight on Facebook about this. He believes BT will not charge like Sky do because even these bids with NO customers joining up and the current £10 deal for sports will not dent the broadband income. He says they are not doing this to get into the Media industry but instead it is just a consequence of much bigger plan... to wrestle customers back from TalkTalk and Sky regarding internet and landlines.

The sports channels are just a sweetner as part of that much bigger revenue stream from broadband.

Happy to see BT batter Sky, and hope it continues, as Sky have been a thieving monopoly of sport for far too long!................<ok>

money ruins everything in the end and football is no different........give me lower leagues any day rather than the silly games we have going on in the top flight.....the cheating and match fixing is laughable
